If you can get a good deal on the Santa Cruz, get that.

Maverick has so many issues already, imagine what will happen to them once the warranty expires. Honda Ridgeline is awesome, but too expensive for what it is. You can get a full sized luxurious American truck or a nice non-American Hybrid SUV for the Ridgeline's cost.

Hyundai's warranty beats them all and has decent MPG. It is naturally aspirated and should last at least 150k miles where with Turbocharged vehicles, you can run into problems at around the 80-90k mark. (Especially American Cars)

Whatever you do, don't pay a markup on any of them. The crash is just around the corner.

Throw your wife in the back seat and tell her to sit sideways, problem solved.

I just wish I could test drive a Maverick. I've seen plenty out on the road, but not a single one on the Ford lot I drive past daily on my way to work.
That was my first thought too!

The Mav is a great vehicle for a great price…..and because of this, the seats are firmer than optimal (xlt and lariat only difference is seat covering) and in the back seat, upright position and no 60 / 40 split. Suggest getting eb xlt, Lux, 4K tow, drop in liner and 360, should be around 32k and put the $8k savings into an account for your sons Mav, oh and for me, a major reason getting mine was the front bumper wrapping around providing excellent safety.

I’m guessing you drove the Cyber Orange one? (It’s the only used one I’ve seen on a lot in Katy recently)

I find it odd you are looking at compact pickups if your wife and son need extra space
Seems like you might be better either buying an F150 or going in your wife’s car

I'm just surprised you dealt with 4 different dealerships in one day and didn't off yourself. What an excruitiating long day! Good luck on your search.

I guess my feedback to the OP would be based on the words " We buy and drive till they die". And the $40,000 price point being targeted.

When I see that, I don't think Maverick or Santa Cruz. They both have highly stressed turbo engines that are questionable over the long run (I plan to trade my ecoboost for BEV asap). The Honda has a naturally aspirated V6 engine and a long history behind it.

Also, with absolutely no insult intended for all the $40K Loaded Lariat owners here, the Maverick starts to look like a pig with lipstick around that price point. And the higher level SC has a dual-clutch transmission with known issues (I owned a Soul Turbo with DCT and disliked the transmission).

The Ridgeline isn't for me personally ONLY because it's even huger than the Maverick (which I already consider a bloated pig). But if you're cool with a 210" long midsize truck that has a proven track record (and has just been nicely refreshed), then I'd consider the Ridgeline the no-brainer choice at the $40K price point and an "I'm going to own it till it dies" attitude.

We bought a Maverick for the gas mileage and our love of hybrids. If you don't care about those things, buy what you enjoyed test driving. The rest is honestly just details. In spite of the motor junkie conspiracists, modern vehicles in this country have to meet a lot of safety and quality standards. Just buy what speaks to you. Buy it in a color you like.

I have no regrets with the Maverick I bought... Alto Blue EB, XLT FWD with lux, 360, moon roof, SIBL, tow package. I can consistently get 20 mpg daily and average 29 mpg on the road with out having to sacrifice the way I drive... I can get even better if I dial back my speed. Comfort, quality and flexibility hit all the right boxes for me.

Interesting you say the SC has more rear seat room since technically the Mav has the bigger back seat. Heck it’s even bigger than a lot of the mid size pickups. I would love a Ridgeline but they are to much money...
