So if 100 people came in and placed orders on day 1 and you show up on day 4. Would you expect that dealer to hold all of those orders and wait for you to arrive? No dealer is going to do anything like that.
No, I wouldn't expect the dealer to hold orders for someone they still needed to talk to before submitting their order, and I never said I did.

I specifically asked the salesman in our initial conversation if I'd have to talk to him on order day and he said no, not unless the options I want change, in which case we could still talk about the different options I want before the actual order date.
While you have placed a $500 deposit early, you have not placed an order. Orders were closed in January and don’t open again until August. Dealers are not going to hold orders and wait on you to place an order.
Not trying to be rude. It’s just business.
Yes, I am well aware there is no order placed yet. The salesman told me this himself, and anyway, I was already aware that Ford is not accepting orders until August 15th (25th for the Ecoboost I want). That's why it's called a pre-order. I will give them all the info and verification they need well before then, and then they will submit my order to Ford on the 25th on my behalf, without me needing to call them or walk in the day of.

What are you not understanding about this?

Folks are just salty about their long waits and either are just trying to make sure you are fully comprehending your status, or are taking their frustration out on you. Don't worry about them. :)

All good points. I'd go with the XLT. Adding to the XL after market eats up time and effort. You might be without the truck for some time. A lot depends on your personal situations. (Family demands, work schedules, etc.) Even if these are non-issues, you're still dealing with the time & effort factor. It's worth it to me to have the factory add-ons, because my time is more valuable. (The older one gets, the more valuable it becomes as would any rarity.)

I believe Ford will seriously look at a hybrid AWD. Remember, they took a big gamble on the Maverick so they smartly decided to ease into what was offered and let the public have their say for the future. Since the Maverick is a unibody, Ford would need to completely redesign from the ground up to create a longer bed. At that point, they're just recreating the Ranger, so not a good strategy.

Whatever your decision, it's a great truck and I'm sure you'll be happy driving it.
This is a good point. I actually just called them back to change it to an XLT with 4k, FX4, and CP360. I think I'll be very satisfied with these options, as it will do pretty much everything I want right off the lot. The only extra thing I'll want to add right away is a bedliner, but that is simple enough to do myself.

If they do come out with a hybrid later on with all the same features I'm getting now, I will be trading this one in for sure, but I'm not going to wait on it. The bed thing makes sense, but it's certainly no deal-breaker for me. I doubt I'll face many situations where it becomes a real problem, and if I do then I can probably solve it with a small flatbed trailer.

I understand just fine. Read your post I responded to, then read mine. I’m sure it will help clarify my post for you. Again, I wasn’t trying to be rude. It’s just how business works. I apologize if I hit a sore spot.

I agree it is very easy to just take someone's build information down and the date and then set it aside while working on older ones by date. Will the dealer actually do that? Who knows? More importantly, how would you even know? Sure some dealers will tell you where you are in the "queue" but not all. My dealer won't tell me how many are in front of me or even what their monthly allocation is. If you get a confirmation email from Ford on August 15th, then great, you're first of the line after 22 orders. If you get a confirmation email a week later, you probably got screwed.

No. You can clarify what you said yourself if you think it's so important, otherwise move on.

Well, you seem to be angry.
I had another post in mind, but decided against it. You be angry, I’ll be me. Hope you feel better.

The deposit was $500, which is more than I expected, but the dealer told me that a deposit is a requirement now, as apparently some dealers have been putting in fake customer orders to try to bolster their stock. He also told me I was the first one to call them about the 2023 Maverick and actually put a deposit down, so hopefully that means I'll be one of the first people to get the new Maverick.

For now I went with the XL with AWD and 4k tow package as my only two additions, but I am debating on whether I should call back and upgrade to the XLT with the FX4 package, or just add a handful of things like CP360 and the manual rear window.

I'm almost certain I'm going to get those 2 options added at least. Mainly I'm just considering what options will be impossible to add later on that I might regret not getting.

I'm on the fence about upgrading to the XLT, because while I sure would like to have all those extra features on day one, from comparing the differences and looking them up here, it seems like all the standard XLT features I really care about can be added after the fact with relative ease. It could definitely still be worth it just for the convenience and added resale value, but I'm not sure.

In any case, I hope this forum will be a good resource to help me make those decisions. Luckily I still have two months to change my mind.

Whatever I end up with, it will be a massive upgrade from my rickety little Aveo. I cannot wait to be done with this thing.
Hope you have agreed on pricing.

Well we can't really do that yet. As others have pointed out, it's a matter of waiting until the official pricing from Ford actually comes out. The deposit is refundable, though, and I've also researched the dealer and found zero examples of them marking up prices over MSRP or doing really anything shady like that. There is even at least one person on here who got their Maverick from the same dealer and specifically mentioned they got it at MSRP.

I really don't think I have anything to worry about with these guys, but I'll surely let you guys know if I do.

Wrong.

That is definitely not the smart move at all. You gain nothing by giving your money up for a truck you can’t order, or even know the prices of to order.

I'd call and set up a time to return to the dealer. Choose a time when they will be slow. Write down all the questions you have. Sit down with the salesperson and review.

Once the salesperson has told you that they can't 100% answer all your questions, ask nicely if the sales manager has a few minutes to spare.

The important thing is to get in writing on your deposit receipt that the price will be MSRP (at time of order) plus or minus $xxxx.
Example: "To be sold for MSRP plus tax, $200 for tags and $495 dealer fee."

Some dealers would love to sell a cancelled Maverick 10k above, so why demand a deposit? Your not ordering a puke green Yugo station wagon that may be hard to unload.

I think you made a wise decision to change your build to an XLT with the add-ons. Most of our regrets are of things we DID NOT do, rather than what we did do. Many other features make the XLT a wiser choice in my opinion. I would advise getting a bed liner of some kind. I have the factory one to keep the bed from looking trashed and even put down indoor/outdoor carpeting to keep my knees from getting trashed. Also protects other stuff you might want to tote like furniture or finished lumber. Please keep us posted when you get a delivery!
