At those speeds, 29 is fine. But, to sidebar for a moment, I have to laugh at some of the people saying, "just go 60". Depending on what region you live in, going 60 could pose serious risk to yourself and those around you, even in the number 4+ lanes. If you're going 60 in lanes > 3, that should be criminally negligent imo.

East coasters really don't know how flat and wide open big portions of the country are. 70mph in Texas is nothing like 70mph in Connecticut.

EPA mileage testing for highway is based on running at 60 mph as an average.

Gas Fx4/turbo with tow package got me 33mpg hwy traveling @ 68 mph. Only drove 43 miles. That was my first hwy experience trying to max out fuel efficiency, but I also wasn't towing anything and I don't have a cover on the back yet... Naturally wind/rain and traffic affects all this anyway. Just trying help people have some perspective

After getting 45 and 41 mpg in city driving, a recent trip to corpus cristi at 75 mph yielded 29 mpg.

I expected at least 35. Anyone else see something similar?
No, I did a that over this weekend and was getting 31.7 in Ohio.

We’re seeing similar results. Low to mid 40s around town, an occasional high 40 to 50 on a short, easy trip. Then mid to upper 30s on the highway. Can’t say we’ve driven long distances at high speed so haven’t seen how low it will go.

Overall very satisfied with the MPG. And for those saying drive 60 instead of 65, we have 80 MPH speed limits in some areas here. If you drive 60 you’re going to get run over.
I drive normal and in normal driving mode. I believe I will get well over 50mpg driving only to work. It will be a week or so before I will be able give details.

What you’re seeing is normal with short trips if the engine is not warmed up to optimal temps. My commute to work in the morning is 5 minutes, but I get pretty crappy efficiency on that drive, sometimes in the low 20’s. But running errands place to place with the engine warm I get 40-50. Mixed Highway trips going 60-75mph between cities and towns almost always lands me around 40mpg.
Thanks. Good to know. Yes its definitely a lot of short trips as for the most part i WFH and im only going around town to get groceries and pickups/dropoffs at daycare, and those places are very close (2-5min drives).

Anything longer seems to be pretty good though, so makes sense engine needs to be warm. Also funny enough if i drive for 5min, the MPG sucks, but the MPG on the way home is usually better.

Thanks again

Still better than my Honda Odyssey...

My entire life I've seen highway MPG better than city, so it still makes my brain hiccup when I think about the hybrid city rating being higher than highway. :)

Maybe I'm luckier than the rest. On several freeway trips with the cruise set to 72 or 73 I have been averaging 36-37.

I did an 800 mile round trip from Albuquerque to Denver. This is at an average altitude of 5200 feet. I set the cruise on 79 mph and I was consistently getting over 36 mpg. 37.6 between Raton, NM and Denver. Didn't need air conditioning so that helped. Used a little heater in the mornings. No load except myself.

You need an aero topper to do that

https://ecomodder.com/forum/showthread.php/commercially-produced-aerodynamic-pickup-bed-cap-583.html

Sounds like you wanted a naturally Aspired Diesel 5speed stick VW Rabbit Pickup, those would get a real 40-50mpg on the highway

Unfortunate nobody makes an actual small truck anymore

GM & Dodge may eventually import a Chicano small truck appliance but those options are likely just gonna be cheap without the 50mpg NA Diesel option, ah well, can’t have nice things in this country

Also worth noting even the MightyEscape hybrid only manages 30mpg at 75

So as far as the northeast Maines highways are between 65 and 75 with 70 being the majority. I have the ecoboost awd fx4 4k. I get between around 30-31mpg with my truck religiously and that is with about a 70/30 split between highway and city. I have seen up to 34 once. I have around 14k on my truck and IN MY OPINION the low balled the EPA on the gas motor. I have never seen below 27 and I spent a week in greater Portland which is where I got 27. If the auto start stop had shut off everytime it should have it might have been higher.

I drive a ford fusion hybrid and I get my best mpg at 65 mph around 44-45 mpg's at 75 it drops down to 35-38 mpg's the lower the engine rpm's the better the gas mileage, under 2k rpm is your best gas mileage
