There are a lot of back roads around here with speed limits of 55-65. The dash display usually shows about 40 mpg when I'm doing those speeds. (The dash actually shows a bit higher, but I've found that the computer is consistently 1-2 mpg higher than my hand-calculated usage.)

I haven't done a "full tank and refill" on roads like that, so the dash display is the best evidence I have for how it goes. But I think it's pretty close. Speed apparently makes a huge difference.

The hybrid is rated at 33MPG highway. Going 75 will result in below EPA posted estimates for any vehicle. 29mpg seems strong.
75 is not the normal or average highway speed. In almost all of the North East the speed limits are 55 MPH.. The diff. in fuel economy between 55 and 75 is huge. I get 40 MPG at 55 MPH you get 29 In fact on the highway I regularly beat the EPA estimate by a wide margin. And at 80 MPH the situation will get exponentially more dramatic. The resistance of the air becomes a larger and larger fraction of the total system fuel expenditure. I think 29 mpg is about right at 75.

You need to research aerodynamic drag and how much that increases with even small increases in speed.

That said, I'm not bashing you. My commute regularly has me at 80mph. It is what it is. I'd take 28-29mpg in those circumstances.
Wow I never had a car that could go 80 MPH for any length of time- all my old cars would fly apart. Now that modern cars can easily go 80 maybe they should raise the speed limits to 75 across most interstates..

Just got a 22 sonata hybrid and averaging 50mpg combination city, highway and backroads. This car loves doing 65. Dash says 51.5mpg average, after 1000 miles I calculate 52mpg. Once my mav arrives both of our vehicles will be hybrids.
one is more like a wedge the other more like a block...
I suspect the Mav is not very aero-dynamic

in my experience its almost as if the city and highway mpgs should be switched.

getting in some highway driving between 65-70 mph i usually end up with mpgs in the low to mid 40s. When im driving "in the city" (wonder what their definition is?) i get like 20-25mpg. That's with frequent stop signs and traffic lights, and speeds 30-40mph. Im actively trying to accelerate slowly, however i still get poop mpg according to the dash. Short trips seem to be wonky but maybe thats just the computer?

Just for a comparison. After my first 7 hour road trip. With my 4K AWD EcoBoost. I was getting 30.5mpg. Now going back and forth from work to home City and highway. I got 28.2mpg which for me I'm very happy with. Can't wait to see what my MPG will be when I take the camper camping. Would have gotten the hybrid if it wasn't for the 2,000 lb towing limit. Love seeing all the hybrid Mavericks kicking ass and taking names of other vehicles MPG

A week ago I drove from Chicago to Tampa. I'd say my highway speed averaged 75-80 MPH outside of construction zones and pit stops. Normal mode only.

After getting 45 and 41 mpg in city driving, a recent trip to corpus cristi at 75 mph yielded 29 mpg.

I expected at least 35. Anyone else see something similar?
Were you fighting a head wind as well?

I average about 40 even if I don’t try. Including highway at 80mph.

What you’re seeing is normal with short trips if the engine is not warmed up to optimal temps. My commute to work in the morning is 5 minutes, but I get pretty crappy efficiency on that drive, sometimes in the low 20’s. But running errands place to place with the engine warm I get 40-50. Mixed Highway trips going 60-75mph between cities and towns almost always lands me around 40mpg.

Ford Maverick 150 miles @ 75 mph, 29 mpg. No bueno. 20220504_140348

This was my total mileage on my truck since I got it (photo from a last week). This included Ohio winter cold (learning how the heat makes the engine run much much more), driving over 800 miles with a trailer (3 separate trips), several long trips, some freeways around town and a lot of city driving in rush hour 25-35mph zones with lights.

I'm quite happy with the results. Last two tanks I'm averaging over 45mpg.

I'm getting a hang of keeping it in electric mode longer. Though sometimes you just have to throttle down because people behind you at lights. It's the 15-20mph range where if you really put your foot into it it will switch to hybrid every time.

As for highway the two times i ran from Youngstown to Toledo and Toledo to home, with a trailer running tow/Haul I averaged 23mpg west and 26mpg east. Not bad for 70mph pulling 1000lbs. The wind and cold definitely played a factor that day.
