I ran in to the same. On a day trip at 85mph I only got 28mpg. Did a test on a 5 mile stretch out side my home, at 80+ 28mpg at 70 32mpg and at 60 36-38 mpg. Hybrids are made for in town low speed stop and go traffic not highway driving. That said I am very happy with mine. Name another truck that gets better than 30mpg 99% of the time. ATM I'm about to hit 4000 miles and total mpg is 37. This is on a 40% rural, 40% highway, 20% town driving.
I made 39 mile trip in econo mode, left in morning hit almost all red lights majority speed limits 55-65, had about 430ft drop in altitude (= more down hill), AC set auto at 73 (probably never came on). Arrived and trip meter reported 60.1 mpg shopped three stores ate Rosa's taco salad bowl with water and senior discount (less than $5). Then returned home same route so had to go uphill temp was 15-20 degrees warmer and all the lights were green so no braking and used AC. Trip meter reported 37.8 mpg.

I went from Clearwater to Miami @ 82mph, got 31.8 mpg, wind blowing south. Return trip @ 82mph, got 28.6 against the wind.

We had a 2012 Toyota Prius and the thing that killed the MPG was.

Highway driving
Not being in eco mode
Increases in speed

Driving in the city with the regenerative braking would put us in the high 40’s. Highway would be the high 30’s. We did a combo of both and we’re about 45 mpg.

If the Maverick gets close to that I will be stoked! Prius with a bed 😁

Did an 80 mile round trip up north on the interstate this weekend. Cruise set @75 in standard mode. A couple hundred pounds of gear in the bed including a bike over the tailgate. I got 36mpg on the way and about 29 on the way back. 10mph winds from the south the whole weekend.

33 mpg highway is the rating...at way less than 75 mph assuming no headwind. So that's right.
and they didn't mention how many passengers on the trip? Load in bed? Towing anything? All those hurt MPG in best of conditions. I suspect there is more to the story not accounted for.

Irrelevant without knowing what you had for breakfast before.

Sounds about right. I had similar results driving from PA to NY. Around here mine struggles to get 33mpg at 55mph.
This is why I was very skeptical of the thread where the owner claimed 50mpg hand calculated (40mpg on the display) going 75-80mph.

You're headed to Corpus Christi which means typically into a head wind from San Antonio. Therefore, why gripe at 29mpg? that's actually better than my gas Camry in those headwinds. And were you doing 75 or 80 like the rest of the traffic? as others said before hybrids do worse on hwy. But driving habits dictate mpg.

Ahh man, my Prius gets 36 holding 85mph for hours. I knew I wouldn’t like the Maverick. Only joking, seems good for a truck vs aerodynamic hatch back.

After getting 45 and 41 mpg in city driving, a recent trip to corpus cristi at 75 mph yielded 29 mpg.

I expected at least 35. Anyone else see something similar?
LOL, you are driving a brink at 75... Lower the speed to 65 and watch the MPG climb

Headwind can cause a real loss in mpg’s, thus why speed is your enemy. When I go between OH and NC, all freeway, I try to keep it around 72-74. Can’t do anything about 20-30mph winds. I usually get 33-34, even in cold weather. Still 10 better than the old Ridgeline. Anything NOT on the freeway at constant high speed, it is pretty easy to get 40-50.

Was this in the past few days ? Spotted an Alto Blue with some pretty decent tint yesterday on Airline.

For reference, my FWD XL EB averages 21.5MPG on my commute
Unless my math is wrong, that’s about 35% better in the hybrid. Sounds like something to cheer, not jeer.

We live near Austin and go towards Corpus nearly every two weeks. You are almost always driving into a very stiff headwind going down that way. That will always kill your mpg.
