Ford Just Announced a Second Electric Pickup Truck

At the live unveiling of the electric Ford F-150 Lightning, CEO Jim Farley revealed "another electric pickup truck" is in the works.

The livestream of the unveiling of Ford’s F-150 Lightning just wrapped up a few minutes ago, and while there was not a ton of new or groundbreaking information on the truck itself, Ford CEO Jim Farley did drop quite the little nugget during his speech.

“We’re already pushing dirt down in Blue Oval City in Tennessee for another electric pickup truck that’s different than this one,” Farley said.

That means there’s already another EV Ford truck in the works. Right now details are about as scarce as they could be, but odds are it’ll be based on either the Maverick or new Ranger that is due to come out soon.

Obviously, as more information on the new Ford EV pickup comes out, we’ll bring it to you. Odds are it’ll be quite a seller, considering Ford really just cannot make enough cars right now.

Farley also teased an “expanded lineup, which you have not seen yet.”

The Maverick makes the most sense to be the next EV Ford truck if you really think about it.

EV HD trucks don't really make sense yet, and the Ranger is coming out all new for '23, but still no hybrid version.

My guess would be the next FMC for the Mav in '25/26 will see the EV version.

I would expect it to be the Ranger.

Adding $10,000 to the base price of a Maverick would dampen the appeal.

That being said, they did figure out how to make the hybrid Maverick cheaper than the Ecoboost, so I suppose anything is possible.

Would bet it is based on a different platform. Present Mav and incoming Ranger where designed for ICE. Current product cycle would not pay off to convert existing. While Lightening appears to be same as ICE F150, it has a complete custom frame and just uses existing body. (ICE-internal combustion engine)

Makes the least sense, as its a unibody. The best EVs are skateboard designs, which you can't really do with an existing unibody chassis designed for ICE.

You can make one from the ground up, or if its ladder on frame those are basically frames ready for batteries to be inserted between them anyway.

And even with the government's hand in everyone's wallet subsidizing the EVs, they still tend to be fairly expensive powertrains. For pure economic sense, the hybrid Mav already does the trick.

Agree.

Too early to come out with full EV for the Maverick. It would piss a lot of current hybrid owners off (meaning me). HOWEVER, bet the MSRP will be quite a bit higher than the Hybrid MSRP.

For it to be the Mav it would either lose more ground clearance or lose cargo area EV batteries take alot of space.

I would much rather have a hybrid than plug in electric
How about a plug in hybrid Maverick or something similar? We have a RAV4 Prime and it is excellent. 230 HP electric only, 42+ mile range. Unless we take a trip to see family or go for a bit of a drive we can go back and forth to work without having to use gas at all. Throw in the gas engine and that puts it just over 300HP. For an SUV it's quick. It is just a little quicker than my Lexus IS350 F Sport. Quiet, comfortable, reliable. I keep saying if Toyota would put that drivetrain in a similar size truck I would buy it in a heartbeat.

For the 2 weeks that I've had my Maverick I am definitely enjoying it. Just as everyone is saying it gets better than the EPA mileage estimates. Make it a plug in with similar numbers as the RAV and that would be an awesome vehicle.
