I picked up a hybrid XL on 27 January after a customer canceled his order. I was impressed with the ride quality for the two months I owned it. The seats are pretty comfortable and the truck ran smooth, or so I thought.

On 30 March, the dealer I ordered my hybrid Maverick XLT with the lux pkg and CP360 from, called and said that a customer canceled their order, and offered it to me. I traded in the XL and bought the XLT with the lux pkg, and canceled my order. I can say this based on my experience that the XLT with the Lux pkg definitely has a different feel to the seats and the truck runs quieter. IDK if it's because of the wheels and Continental tires, but it is definitely a smoother, quieter, and more comfortable ride than the XL.

By any chance did you check the tire pressures?

Could be the XL was running on psi as shipped (42 - 45 psi) and with the XLT the dealer reduced the psi to match tire spec (35)?

Experienced the sales person at my dealership being gobsmacked when I pointed this out (confirmed by showing him the readout on the instrument panel tire pressure screen) and insisted they lower the pressure on all tires to the spec recommended on the door sticker as part of dealer prep before I drove it off the lot (XL hybrid with Continentals).

I checked the air pressure in the tires on the XL last week. They were at 35 psi. I didn’t check the pressure on the XLT though.

Part of the change in feel might be due to the difference in weight between steel and aluminum wheels (assuming that changed between the two truck models you drove). Anyone know what the wheel/tire weights are for the available maverick options?

The XLT lux has adjustable lumbar support too, so that might make a difference as well.

This doesn't really make sense, they both have the same continental tires, same suspension dampers and components and seat cushions with the exception of the heating elements in the XLT lux seats. From what I understand the steel and aluminum wheels on both weigh in at 27 pounds. This might be a psychological bias....

I could be wrong, but I believe the XLT with the lux has a noise dampening windshield. Therein may lie the difference.

I didn’t have Continental tires on the XL.

are you sure about that? you'd be the first I've seen to not have the same continental that comes standard on everything with 17" wheels with the exception of the FX4 package and the special AT wheels and tires. Even tirerack lists the continentals as OE tires for the Maverick XL in either ecoboost or hybrid variant

That is true, but I was wondering if it was available for the XLT.

I have an XLT Hybrid Maverick and I have found that the seats and ride are much better than my previous 2015 Honda Fit Ex and the wife's 2009 Honda CR-V Ex.

A friend who owns a Ford Focus raves how much better ride the Maverick is compared to his car.

Also the seat quality is better in the XLT compared to the XL so that can be a reason for the better ride in the XLT.
