Good Morning - Looking at buying a Maverick either a leftover 24 or an incoming 25

I was looking for opinions of people who have driven or owned both the earlier direct injection only engine and have driven/own the new direct/port injection engine.

Thank you!

I have not driven the new EB but I would not be considering a 2024 EB at this point because I view the new design with port and direct injection vastly superior to DI only. Also the 2025s currently being produced do not have the Gas particulate filter yet so it's really a best of both worlds time for the 25s.

"Vastly superior" may be a bit of an overstatement. The dual injector setup may negate the carbon build up issue, but this can also be managed through full synthetic 5k oil changes and maybe additional air/oil separators. At worst DI engines may need a professional intake cleaning at 50k. Performance wise they should be near identical in stock form. I will concede dual injection is the best of both worlds with the only drawback being additional cost, additional complexity and maintenance and additional potential costs for repairs. Time will tell.

Sincerely, a butthurt 2024 EB owner

I'm seeing 2024s on the lot near me (dealer) discounted by $2,000 before other incentives. But you can't take delivery of them until the recall is performed. I'm really curious to see what Ford incentives become available this spring for these lot queens.

2025 changes in tech and engine should theoretically give you a slightly better vehicle (Ford claims that changes will reduce their quality issues). The 2025 does have a huge gob of snot hanging off the nose, but that's less noticeable with the darker colors like green.

Unless you get a huge discount, and I mean like $3,000+, I'd go with the 2025. But it's really your call - we don't know what you do or don't value.

PS: Unless you loathe the styling, you kind of ought to take the Santa Cruz for a drive too. What harm is there in driving the competition? It's not gonna leave you with a communicable disease...
