3. I trust ford to make a truck more than hyundai
me as well but Hyundai made adding a harness and receiver to non-equipped trucks simple as it should be and Ford made it near impossible. On the SC to add a harness, you remove a panel and there's a plug and play pig tail. On the Mav.....

well search and you'll spend longer reading about what a PITA it is than it would take a SC user to install their hitch and harness.

But yea, the SC just looks stupid

Here's the difference..., I wanted a small truck in January. I ordered a Maverick. I will probably not get it in 2022.

I went to my Hyundai dealer told him exactly what I wanted and had it in three weeks at MSRP.

Hyundai can deliver. Ford can't.

(Yes, my Maverick is still on order. Yes, I'll probably still get it for my son.)
I'd suspect you're just as much of an exception in picking up that Hyundai as are those that are here and manage to snag a random Maverick off the lot. Your experience is definitely not a common one in this general market.

If on the other hand I am wrong and I could go to any hyundai dealer and have a santa cruz in 3 weeks, well, that doesn't bode well for the santa cruz...

On the subject of the tonneau - aftermarket SC support is abysmal - Ford's name appears to be the defining factor here, as you can pick from pretty much any option out there (soft and hard roll/fold, retracting, etc). Unless I'm missing something I see 7 options on tonneauworld.com, 6 of which are varying levels of soft-rolling covers with one hard folding. That would be disappointing.

So you're basically hard retractable OEM or bust when it comes to an SC tonneau, and that box to store it is HUGE in that bed.
You're right, but exaggerating a bit. If you want a turbocharger, you're paying for the retractable tonneau whether you want it or not (at least in the US, not Canada). Luckily, its not hard to take off and you can sell them for quite a pretty penny to SE/SEL owners that want it.

The aftermarket isn't as big, but there ARE options, such as:
  1. Hyundai Soft Rollup tonneau cover: https://hyundaishop.com/shop-by-model/2022-hyundai-santa-cruz-roll-up-tonneau-cover-r026/
  2. Access roll up in various styles: https://tonneaucoversworld.com/c/tonneau-covers/roll-up/v/hyundai/santa-cruz/2022/
  3. Red Headed Rebel Soft tonneau: https://rhrswag.com/product/rhr-xl-rollup-bed-covers/v/Hyundai/Santa Cruz/2022/
  4. Lomax Stance quick-removable hard trifold tonneau

mav… naturally since im on this forum, for the following reasons:

1. Price: santa cruz in canada starts 12k higher than mav
2. Towing: i know santa cruz technically has a higher rating… but you cant get a 7 pin connector… so you can pull 5k but cant stop… seems unwise
3. I trust ford to make a truck more than hyundai
4. IMO maverick aesthetics = bueno. Santa cruz aesthetics = no bueno
Just some points though to play devil's advocate:
  1. Do you really want a FWD hybrid in Canada? Cheapest Canadian Santa Cruz is the AWD turbocharged one with a 5K lb tow rating with the smartstream that is both port and fuel injected, so no fouling issues like on the ecoboost and compares feature wise with a XLT Turbo AWD 4K package which makes the price gap not that great.
  2. You can get a 7-pin connector now, that problem on launch has since been solved.
  3. Both are as much crossovers as "trucks" though since they are unibody, and Hyundai does have the better warranty.
  4. Subjective but very important, I'd never buy a vehicle I thought was ugly, luckily I like both. So fair enough, but for example I thought the Jeep Renegade was cute whereas my dad nearly disowned me for having such poor taste in his opinion. 😁

I actually hate the bed cover on the santa cruz. Its a 4.5 foot box… i cant spare to lose the front foot of it.

The bed on my Maverick is something I will only occasionally use so the bed cover like on the Santa Cruz would not be a problem for me. But, to each his/her own.

Is sparse a better word? If I bought a truck, I'd want options for a tonneau. With the Maverick you can get anything from a soft roll-up to a motorized retractable for $2,800 bucks. being able to choose which soft roll-up I can buy, or picking one hard or soft folding option isn't enough.

I finally got to see a santa cruz in person the other week and give it a walkaround. I do like the look of it overall. That bed may be just slightly smaller on paper, but it looks a LOT smaller in person. I didn't get to see inside the bed as it had the OEM cover on, but from what I could tell it was not a lot of open space with that installed. I see the SC bed as more of a cargo space than a truck bed - Maverick isn't far off, but it seems much more functional to me.

Ah thisi didnt know. I knew it was basically impossible on the Mav. Didn’t know it was easy on sc. Nice counter point thanks

I like the Santa Cruz better, but I only like the limited at 41k. Maverick only wins because it’s almost 15k cheaper in the configuration I like.

Interesting thread. I am still kind of betwixt and between. But I think in August I will order a Lariat Hybrid . The owner experiences I have read have been very impressive.
Just computed today-at current prices I burn a dollar of gas every mile in my and Sienna.

How did you squeeze that ZZ632 big block in your Sienna?

Saw a Santa Cruz first time on road when I was driving home yesterday. It's grey. The front and back looks much better than on screen. From front, the bulged outline makes it more substantial than the flimsy feel from it's curly design elements.

Mav makes it cheap and factory ordered to get a 4PIN or 7PIN WITH a trailer brake controller though depending on your preference, I mean only $100 for the standard tow, and because its integrated into the design of the Maverick you don't lose departure angle.

On the Santa Cruz it was never really designed for a hitch which is weird, can't be added from the factory (dealer installed option), and it hangs under the vehicle reducing clearance, and will cost you quite a bit.

I like the Maverick styling better. In terms of build quality, coming from Toyotas and Mazdas they are the same but I expect the Maverick to last a bit longer.
my biggest reason for going Maverick is that I think it’s going to have the bigger aftermarket.
