I'm highly suspect of these MPG reports, and I want to believe! If I reset my trip calcs after fill and hit the highway at 65-70 in my Ranger, I can get it to show 26. My best fuelly fill-up is even 25.6. Lifetime however is on the bottom end of the EPA estimate at 20.4 (although I'm not in the city, much of my driving ends up being short trip, and I'm in MN as well so cold winters on top of that).

I regularly see the instant readout gauge displaying values in the 30s - all it takes is a slight lift on the throttle, or a mild downward grade.

That said, I would expect the Maverick's MPG EPA estimates to probably be 15% higher than the Ranger, give or take. That would put 30 in sight in best case scenario driving conditions. I also know that it will be a fun pickup to drive with that size engine! Power to weight will be slightly better than my Ranger, which is pretty fun even without a tune.

Every time I read about the fuel economy of the 2.0L Ecoboost from these kinds of post, the more I believe Ford hasn't mentioned their targeted fuel economy as to not diminish the hybrid's appeal.

Also, great size comparison next to the Subaru!
Meh, or its just Ford employees talking about how great the fuel economy of the Maverick is because their job is to help sell vehicles.

The Ecoboost is not an unknown engine, so fuel economy should be less than in a Ford Escape, just because the Ford Escape is very aerodynamic for a crossover. Per everyone in a 2.0 Ecoboost Escape on fuelly, they are averaging 27mpg combined:
Based on data from 24 vehicles, 423 fuel-ups and 139,212 miles of driving, the 2020 Ford Escape gets a combined Avg MPG of 27.05 with a 0.55 MPG margin of error.
For Bronco Sport 2.0 ecoboost AWD (IMO more similar to the Maverick in shape/aerodynamics) the average is 23mpg combined:
Ford Maverick Impressions from Maverick 2.0L trainer. Legroom tested. 31-35 MPG reported. BS

So while there are techniques to hypermile any vehicle, I'd say somewhere in the 23-27mpg is where you should set your expectations so you aren't disappointed.

Any word on if it has already been through Ricart and Dick Masheter?

I live in Canada where mileage is rated at litres used per hundred kilometres. My 2016 F150 supercrew 4X4 with a 2.7 ecoboost, gets 11.1 liters per 100 klms. That works out to 21.3 us mpg. I think the Maverick ecoboost should easily give 30 mpg.

For those of you in Ohio, this same truck will be at Germain Ford on Thursday, 8/12.
Good to know, that's where I ordered mine. I'm off work tomorrow so I'll try to swing by.

I believe the gas mileage will be closer to the Ford Escape awd then Bronco Sport.
Lets not forget the Bronco sport is still a true 4wd.

Anyone who thinks 25 mpg city is bad 😂 None of my current vehicles but 1 gets more then that on the highway.

I have a feeling a lot of hybrid owners are wanting the 2.0 EB and/or awd Maverick to get under 30 mpg to justify why they got the Hybrid and low power option. 🤷‍♂️

Saw the hot pepper red, 2.0EB Lariat, FX4, 4k tow package, trainer Maverick in-person today. Quite a few people there too. Didn't get a lot of pictures. Sat in it and was impressed by the roominess. I'm a big boy, and by big, not tall. I was worried that my basic anatomy might be uncomfortable. With the seat all the way back, I was comfy. No adult could sit behind me, though. A few other big guys sat in the truck at the same time, and everyone said they felt good. I did sit in the back, behind the passenger seat, with the seat forward quite a bit. I was comfy there, but like I said, if the seat is all the way back, I probably wouldn't be comfy.

We weren't able to start the truck because the trainer with the key wasn't around. However, he did make a quick appearance, and I was able to ask him about the MPG. He said he's averaging about 31.5. He also said that on his trip from Detroit to Ohio, all highway, he was getting 35. I hope those numbers are true to what we'll see in real world performance.

As for the pics. Didn't have a whole lot of time to really get good ones. I was on a work break, but I parked my Subaru Forester next to it to kind of give an idea about the size. Wish I could have gotten more, but I just learned about it being at the dealer this morning. For those of you in Ohio, this same truck will be at Germain Ford on Thursday, 8/12.

Thank you for the Subaru comparison! I have an Outback so, looks like this is maybe a few inches longer than it which should be a perfect size.

Also you have to take into account the fuel used. Non-ethanol normally yields a couple of extra mpg.

I can see averaging 30 mpg on the hwy easily.
Mine is only 2 wheel drive. So weight is a bit less.
And much less than a Ford Ranger AWD. Which I believe weighs well over 4000 lbs. Nearly 1000 lbs heavier than a XLT FWD 2.0 Maverick.

My former Alfa Romeo Giulia used a 2.0 turbo and weighs a little more than the Maverick.
With a higher output engine. I still achieved 31 mpg at 70/75 mph.

On the highway it actually gets about the same MPG as my old Hybrid does.
IMHO, Hybrids are better for city dwellers that sit in traffic daily.

For me, I always get better MPG in my vehicles than the EPA estimate. As others have said, YMMV. ;)

Yep, but for some of us, town/mix is 90%. And owning two trucks, that’s the killer. Highway is a wash because there is no functional benefit from hybrid in that case. I see (hope to see) the benefit from hybrid for daily town driving. But agree, if you are a primary highway driver, then hybrid prob not best option

Yep and my situation is opposite. We drive out of town via interstate and highways more then in town. I also want to be able to tow 4K when needed and the peace of mind with awd.
Now don’t get me wrong if Ford would have offered the Escape awd hybrid powertrain and 2k towing on the Maverick I would have got it.

Point is the hybrid will get around 38 mpg hwy and 40 city?
No, hybrid should do closer to about 40 city and 33 highway.

Hybrids can't help much on the highway because the tiny 1.1kwh battery depletes itself in no time, but it helps a ton at red lights and recharges on braking and what not.
