Here's mine. Never remote started or idled, rarely used climate control. Live in a warm climate, so not necessary. Looks pretty melty due to the molded metal shielding, but it is undamaged. Still not happy about ford's (lack of) response to this issue, even if it hasn't affected me.

Assumptions that things like this are an issue are why service managers are 1) Heavy drinkers , or 2) Devout church goers.

The question seems to be whether the OP's photos represent a normal-looking cat heatshield or not. In hopes of helping answer this, I googled photos of other cat heatshields. From what I can tell, most shields look prettier. But not all! Here's one for a Subaru that looks a lot like what we're seeing in the Maverick. Based on the lack of discoloration, no melted plastic in the vicinity, no gravity droop, and a Subaru one that looks similar, I believe that the Maverick cat shield just looks funky--but that it's not melted as the OP claims.

If there is convincing evidence to the contrary, I'd like to see it.

i cannot believe the administrator or OP has not edited the thread title to point out OP is wrong and this is how it normally looks like it.

I'm guessing this happened when I remote started. Got a appointment with my dealer 4 weeks from now. I'm hearing Ford is doing nothing about it. I bought a brand new vehicle. Ford fix your s***

That is what my heat shield looks like after 5000 miles of use. I do have the subzero idle surge issue, and am waiting for a software patch. I do not see cause for alarm at this time, as all of my turbocharged vehicles heat shields display much more oxidation/deformation.

We should be able to down vote posts so that at the very least they don't end up trending.
The moderators really ought to put a disclaimer on his post. That's literally their job. Or at least it's supposed to be. But I suspect the outrageous post is generating a lot of traffic, so they don't have a monetary incentive to do so
