Is it FWD or AWD? In my AWD, a couple times at speeds over 70 or so, if I let off the pedal quickly, I got a brief thump. In the manual it says that can be a characteristic of AWD vehicles. Have not felt it since.

Hi there! Can you send us a PM with your VIN and Ford dealership information? I’d be happy to look into this Maverick concern on my end.
Thank you! I tried sending a pm with VIN info but it would not send. Please provide an alternate method.

Great news! It appears FoMoCo caught my post about the shuddering! Hopefully those of us who have experienced that issue will soon be able to get it fixed🤞🏻

Had my 2.0 AWD for 3 months as of today. Not one single problem so far. Well, the crappy FE decals started coming off in the car wash so I had them removed. I think it looks better without them.

Only matters that you know it's an FX

This has happened to me also. 3 times so far. Each time starting from stop. A heavy shudder like driving over a washboard on start. Taking foot off the gas stopped the shudder. Just over 2000 miles on my 22 Maverick XL Hybrid. Anyone have an answer yet?

I sent a message to FoMoCo on this forum and they are setting up something with my dealer since I told them I did not think the service department would be able to duplicate the problem as it was sporadic. I would suggest you do the same thing so they can start gathering cases of this same issue. BTW my right front wheel just started squeaking when I go over speed bumps or any type of road bump. I don’t know if this might be related or not🤔

Not saying this is the case, but it brings back nightmares of the torque converter (tc)shudder problems of the approx. 2012 to 2014 vehicles using "transmission technologies" as defined in the cafe standard. The trans shift coding wouldn't allow the trans to properly downshift under certain conditions (e.g., going up slight inclines at speeds of 35-50 mph) which eventually destroyed the tc and trans at generally under 35k miles . I come close to buying 2 used vehicles which had damaged transmissions, but thanks to Internet searches, discovered what was going on.

Ugh, I hope this is not something major🤞🏻 Oh I have not had this happen on a hill, only on flat level roads and at the beginning of a drive.

I have a 2017 Chevy Cruze with the 1.4T motor, and a common problem is the engine misfiring as it goes up long grades on the highway. It's subtle and you could just think it was just bumps in the road. If I press on the gas to go faster and induce a downshift, the engine will just buck much more pronouncedly. I have to manually downshift (the automatic transmission) first, then accelerate. I've had this problem nearly the whole time I've owned it. Of course the dealer says I have a good strong motor, but will suggest other tangential expensive repairs instead. At this point I just drive around with my thumb on the shifter so I can tap the +/- button to shift the transmission when I know I'll need to.
Imo... I'd keep downshifting like you're doing it it makes the car perform more "normally". I had a 2010 Toyota Corolla (my son still drives it) and numerous times when starting to accelerate uphill onto an expressway on-ramp, the auto trans would downshift and make an awful clunk nose/feel. I thought the transmission failed. I guess the 4 speed trans couldn't properly deal with the incline and the gradual exceleration I was putting it through. Afterwards, I manually dropped down to 3rd gear on that ramp and never had any more issues.

Hey anyone having trouble with the drivetrain (tranny, or drive shaft) skipping when throttle is pressed like going up a hill?
What ended up happening with this problem of yours? I am having the same issue.

Let’s hope the trans code problem is not the issue. While my 2.0 awd Mav (with 4K tow) has under 400 miles, I have noticed the trans does not like to downshift (in normal and eco) and as a result, will generate a light shudder while muscling through the gear. Having read your comments, I’m going to start selecting towing or sport modes when the light shuddering starts to see if doing so eliminates the issue. I do miss the select gear shifter that was in my old 2016 Escape, yet more than pleased going to the Mav.

My Mav Hybrid has the same issue. Started after 1000 miles. It’s a shudder/chatter you can feel big time, lasts about 5 seconds, seems to go away if you step off gas, then back on. It happens to me in the morning leaving home. Accelerating slowly in ECO mode from a 4 way stop there’s a slight grade enough to trigger over to the gas engine, speed usually 15-20 mph.

The description that best fits it is what someone me mentioned earlier— like going over those road side ridges to wake you up.

I own an auto service. I do not think it is the ABS system. The modulation from this shudder is far too slow for an ABS unless it’s doing something crazy. Sounds to me like a CVT issue but I’ll get it in to Ford.

If anyone figures it out please update!
I had the same incident, with the shutter, on 4/30/2022 with all the same parameters.. My first thought was the CVT. Please give an update of your Ford shop.. My plan is to document the issue with my local dealer too.. Thank you..

I haven't brought it in yet. I'm waiting until my first service, hoping Ford will have figured it out by then and have a TSB with the fix. The problem is obviously widely prevalent and their pumping out more Mav Hybrids every day so its in their interest to fix it fast to avoid the warranty claims by their dealers.

My temporary "fix" is to put my foot down a bit to engage the gas engine *before* I encounter that slight uphill on first drive in the morning.
