I will tell ya this - If Hyundai had a hybrid "truck" and I could purchase it TODAY I would go buy it immediately after getting close to 7 months on the Ford. Let someone else PLEASE produce something comparable so there is some competition. Why would Ford do anything differently than they are right now with no other alternatives ?
Been 8 months for me with no build date from Ford. Spoke with my Hyundai dealer while having wife’s car serviced yesterday. Offered no markup deal on Santa Cruz he had in stock. Told him hybrid was more important to me than AWD. He said Hyundai is aware of demand for Maverick hybrid and will have a SC hybrid on market very soon. Beginning to think it’ll probably be available before I ever see my Maverick

Better styling too, but the value proposition is the Ford. Comparing like trim levels the Santa Cruz is about 6k more along all trims.
I think that many Ford dealers are marking up their Mavericks, $5000 for the eco-boost and $7,500 for the Hybrids, which actually makes them higher than the Santa Cruz.

There’s no way I’d pay more for a maverick, the Santa Cruz is that much nicer.

That said, I’m still waiting for my 27k maverick because the only trim level Santa Cruz I like is the limited which has a 41k msrp. Santa Cruz is available At msrp by me.

I'm sure both points have already been made here but for me there are two things that are really important that the Maverick offers over the Santa Cruz.

MPG
Price

I have a Hybrid Lariat Lux on order. ~40MPG kills the Santa Cruz's ~24MPG. My Lariat Lux will be about $31k and the Santa Cruz would be about $41k the way I would want it.

I don't care that they have a higher towing capacity on the Santa Cruz. I specifically wanted a truck that was more like a car 99% of the time. When I need to haul stuff before I was perfectly happy towing my 4x6 utility trailer to get it done. I have hauled that trailer with two different miatas, a camry, two different civics, a crosstrek and will haul it with my Elantra when I get a hitch put on.

Every one of those trips could have been accomplished a little easier and a little faster with a truck using the bed, but that only accounts for MAYBE 6 weekends a year. The rest of the year, and every week day, the MPG is way more important for me than the utility factor. There is just no way I can justify driving a "real" truck every day of the year. Heck, I just traded my only "SUV" ever, my crosstrek, for an Elantra Hybrid because I couldn't justify the 26MPG.

Yep, I'm at 6 months without a build date, and if there was an alternative where I could get 40mpg, with a truck bed, with heated seats and backup camera for under $30k elsewhere, I would have bought it after three months wait.

You know what's sad? So in the Alabama plant in the US they already make a trim called "Preferred" that has the turbocharged engine, the cooler looking black chrome trimming (instead of silver), in turbocharged AWD for only about $31K US with current exchange rate. That trim has the smaller wireless AA/CP head unit with physical volume control and AC with nice big physical controls. But Canada only, they won't sell this trim in the USA. :(

As much as I like the Maverick, I'd take that particular Canadian trim for just over $30K in a heartbeat, but Hyundai refuses to sell it to Americans... probably because racisms.

I didn’t know this, but I too would pick that version Santa Cruz over the maverick if I could get it in Tennessee.

While you continue to argue over this, I'll just sit back and watch while waiting for Louisville Assembly in Louisville, Kentucky, to build my Escape Hybrid AWD. :)
