My story. I’m getting a Maverick and have a Ford Lightning reservation for next year. Currently have 2 2019 ram 1500 trucks that were trading in cause I am tired of gas prices but will never only own a electric vehicle. We take Lots of weekend road trips and don’t want to mess with out of town charging so that’s why we are getting the maverick and the lightning instead of 2 Lightning trucks.
Very cool!
I'm # 15,307 for Cybertruck, but the Lightning is seriously starting to catch my eye. For me, the Maverick and either the lighting or cybertruck fill two different roles.

I think a plug-in is the sweet spot, and I think we'll have a bunch of PHEV truck options in a few years. I'm getting a hybrid Maverick with the idea that I may only keep it for 3-5 years, then reconsider when there are some good PHEV options. Maybe that's another Maverick (I think we'll get a PHEV option with the midcycle refresh if not before), or maybe it's a next-gen Tacoma that fixes its biggest shortcomings (due in a couple years) or something like that. PHEV would give me pure electric most days (my commute is pretty short), but no downsides when I need to travel further.

I think pure EV trucks have an uphill battle because electric range is so terrible when towing or driving in the mountains in low range. Could make sense for a city truck, but I think a lot of people would chose a good PHEV if it was offered.

My step son has ordered the Tesla and can't wait to get one. I on the other hand would ;like an EV but as you stated, it's just not there yet.

EV are fine for commuting distances, but I don't think I would like to stand around waiting for it to charge. Not only that but an EV maverick with a range of 300ish miles would probably start in the $35-40k range because of the battery costs.

Now a plug in hybrid with say 80 EV miles would be amazing. Especially if they could bring it to market at say 25k for a base XL. They would own the market with something like that if they could figure out a way to turn a profit.

I personally have not seen or heard of a plug in hybrid. Not sure I understand how that would work.

basically just a larger battery pack so you can drive full electric for some miles (the plug in hybrid escape is able to get 37 I think), once the battery pack is depleted, the engine (basically just a generator) kicks on to recharge the battery, or in other systems the engine is able to drive while recharging as well.

The plug in part comes from being able to recharge the vehicle battery from a wall charger as well.

So it would have Gas and Electric. The Electric can self generate and Plug in? Is that what you are saying?
Cool. I might be interested in that. But then again, it would take forever at 110V. I'd still have to upgrade electric service and panel.

But thanks for explaining.

Nope, I’d switch to a hybrid awd version though

I've had 3 Subaru's and really didn't find much value for an AWD in the Sunshine State. I'm not an off road type so it was a waste of technology and tire money.

Right, you can either recharge using the engine/generator, or you can recharge by plugging the vehicle in to a wall charger (120/240). The battery is typically much smaller than a full EV (escape PHEV is 14.4 kw) so it recharges in much less time.

I’m keeping my 2.0 EB Maverick for 5-8 years maybe 10 waiting for the electrical infrastructure and battery technology to advance where 500 miles on a pure ev Maverick or similar is the norm.

Hybrid, not EV. Electric vehicles support the electric utilities. In my area, 40 pounds of coal are burnt to fill the tank of a Tesla and it doesn't even save you money. 40 mpg, good for the environment, good for the pocket.

I specifically wanted to buy useful and functional hybrid to avoid to deal with plugs. I had 2 EVs, and the last thing I want is to deal with charging.

No way Jose! There is a reason that EVs make up only 2% of vehicle sales, even robbing tax payers to buy expensive EVs for the rich, they are still quite expensive apples to apples, and come with too many restrictions. Ford was smart not to go EV, although I wouldn't mind a higher performance hybrid AWD version that added a second battery in the spot that's empty right now under the truck on the opposite side of the current battery, and with the extra current gave say a combined 225hp.
