FORD MAVERICK DELAYS AND CHIP SHORTAGE

I'm thinking that now that the books are closed on ordering and Ford has a much better grasp on how different packages they are going to need, scheduling might actually get better, especially if are still trying to focus on the older order dates, which I for one am hoping they are. This also might finally give all those folks who ordered from smaller dealership a glimmer of light on finally getting their orders scheduled.

In theory they should have their S*** together now, but we know how’ll it’ll go. I agree too, get June/July done regardless of allocation but again won’t happen.

But this could give us some hope.

I was doing some research for the XL cruise control thread where someone mentioned the possibility of adding ACC. ACC requires a special and expensive electric brake booster which is found in all hybrid models regardless of trim and on the ecoboost lariat lux model due to the ACC that comes with it. I went to search for the part on Ford's website and it says that it's backordered. That may be one of the reasons that hybrids and ecoboost lariat lux models are all continuously being delayed.

I'll try to be more temperate in my responses. But I try to write carefully and that makes "straw man" arguments particularly bothersome to me. It's a pet peeve, I guess.

The problem with your new explanation -- that you weren't correcting me but instead correcting a post I quoted -- is that Tim's one-line post didn't say it was "one particular chip unique the Maverick" either.

He just said that the chip was used in all Maverick trim lines no matter the equipment.

This is true. I warm my car up each morning from my app. It is not a necessity. In the old days, I used to go outside and start my car in the cold, brush off the snow, scrape the windshields, no heated anything. But, it sure is nice to get into a nice warm car and the seats are nice and toasty. I'm looking forward to a heated steering wheel now as I don't have that.

I understand what you are saying. According to Tim's response, it would stand to reason that ALL Mavericks moving forward would be put on "chip hold" as soon as they are built starting early to mid January, since all Mavericks are in need of this same chip regardless off trim level and options.

However, this is not the case, because some vehicle are getting shipped that were put in "built" status late January and even early February, which makes absolutely no sense. Why would an early January built Maverick stay in production and be moved to a satellite parking lot to wait 3 months for a chip when a late January built Maverick gets shipped to the customer? by the way, my early January built date Maverick is also stuck "in production" and estimated delivery date pushed to May 21.

It sounds like we are still missing some important information as to what exactly is going on. All we can do is continue to wait. For me personally, the more I try to figure things out and get upset over it, the longer the wait seems to take. When I stop obsessing over it and put my focus and energy on other things the time seems to go by quicker.

Just read Ford is stopping production or scaling back in 8 plants. The plant where the Maverick is produced is not one of the. But it has to be affected. Chip chortage.

I can't speak for Pepperidge Farm, but what I remember is people questioning this claim (from last Friday, 1/28), which I understood to be your prediction based on a call from your dealer:

If you haven't been scheduled yet...you will not get a 2022 Hybrid.

I know you modified that a little bit later on, and I'm not sure what the current version is. But I think it's something like "some hybrid orders won't get scheduled" which isn't nearly the bombshell that the original was. It seems that every year there are a few orders at least that don't make it under the wire.

(If your claim is actually more significant than that, let me know. I don't want to put words in your mouth.)

If there is some major blockade that is going to stop Ford from building hybrids, it hasn't been revealed yet. Until that happens, it looks like they'll get scheduled, built, and left in the desert to cure for a while -- just like mine.

I agree. Maybe there's an explanation based on how production runs occur, but I don't know what it would be. I raised exactly this issue (using the vehicle history from two specific trucks to illustrate it) in this post.

I put this question to @fordvideoguy, but he really isn't the one who is in a position to answer it. Maybe he'll have time to bring it up to somebody up the chain, and maybe they will give an explanation. But I'm not holding my breath.

Yesterday, I saw a very long Union Pacific auto transport train in Nogales, Arizona, heading north from Mexico. Nogales is the entry point for Fords manufactured in the Hermosillo plant. I'm curious what the mix of Mavericks and Bronco Sports are on that train. It was the longest auto transport train I've seen in Nogales in quite some time.

My Ecoboost Maverick was built on 1/28 and "released" for shipment on 1/30. It still sits in "built" status on the Ford tracker and "awaiting shipment" on the vehicle visibility report.

It's been a week, so I'm not sure if my estimated delivery date is really 2/12/2021 - 2/18/2021. I went to the dealership today top talk through trade-in pricing, X-Plan pricing, and price protection back to my order date. The sales manager called the Regional Ford rep. about the price protection and chip shortage. Pretty sure they're going to do the price protection. And, they are attempting to find out if mine is affected by the chip/module shortage or not. Probably will not hear anything till Monday since Ford Corporate folks are off on the weekend.

On another note, I saw in this thread that someone spotted a very long Union Pacific train going through Nogales, AZ yesterday. I'm hoping mine's on that train and Ford is just delayed in the clerical task of updating the tracker.

I'm keeping a running thread on my delivery on this thread for anyone interested.

Update 2/7/2022: Dealer just called to inform me my Maverick arrived today in the Mesquite, TX railyard. Tracker still shows "built" and no email saying it had actually shipped.

It's one chip that is needed in every vehicle no matter what the trim or equipment is.

Tim, i want to be sure that i have this correctly - it is all XL, XLT, Lariat and all ECOBOOST and Hybrid and nothing to do with LUX Packages, Co-Pilot 360, or any other add-ons.

I apologize for the request - just hoping to fully understand the extent of the chip issue.
