Are you going to jump ship if Subaru presents a new version of Baja in 2023?

I would consider it if it were similar in specs to the hybrid Maverick. I held off getting a truck because I want what I want and it finally became available. Only it turns out not to be available because Ford can't actually produce them in sufficient numbers. If Subaru can, I'll consider it. Would prefer an American company, but what does that even mean anymore?

Subaru continues to be absorbed into Toyota. They are officially part of the Toyota Motor Group as of late 2020. Their last new model (BRZ) was a rebadged Toyota and so is their next upcoming vehicle (Solterra). If Subaru ever releases another vehicle with a bed, you can bet it will be derived from an an existing Toyota or be co-developed with them. It also seems pretty unlikely that Subaru will ever get their hands on the new Tundra/Tacoma platform. I can see them coming out with a small BEV truck with the Toyota getting base and premium trims and Subaru getting a single trim somewhere in between (same as BZ4X and Solterra). Would I sell or trade a Mav for an affordable electric truck that's similar in size or smaller? 100% yes

I already have mine, but even if I didn't I don't think I'd ever buy a Subaru. I've known quite a few Subaru fanatics, though I've never met anyone who actually liked their Subaru.

My fiance has a 2020 Forester and it's great, the only complaint I have is the road noise it has, it's like they didn't use any sound proofing. If they offered a truck in similar specs and it wasn't just really ugly I would totally consider it. Hell at this point I might be able to get a fictional sub truck before my Maverick

Respectfully I think Subaru is one of the most overrated car brands in existence, def the most of Japanese brands. I hate their styling. I don’t think they are comfortable. I’m in CO where it’s almost a citizenship requirement to own one lol so I’m outnumbered. I love our maverick, I loved our F150 for 17 years, I will never buy a Subaru.
Could not agree more. That CVT, poor fuel efficiency of the boxer engines, and terrible electrical/infotainment issues with the new outbacks. As another guy in the mountain west (who has a mom and 3 siblings with subies), outside of a great AWD system (which few people really need), I just don't get it.

Only if they drop a WRX engine with manual transmission in it. Otherwise...no.

I don't think so. My first car was a Subaru Impreza and I absolutely loved it. I've had two since then and even talked to my wife into getting a 2016 Forester but after the amount of problems we've had with the dealership and the oil loss issue that we're currently dealing with, I don't think I'll ever own another Subaru product unless someday I get an STI. They used to be on top with their all-wheel drive system but now everybody has mimiced it and even improved on it. Their lower end CVT absolutely sucks. Interior and exterior rattles. It also seems like every model is plagued with head gasket issues between 100k and 150k miles. Sorry Subaru but you have lost my business

This is exactly how I feel. I've been driving Subarus for over 10 years (current one, a Crosstrek for over 5 years and paid off) - I'd like more cargo space, and I was looking at Outbacks. However for just a little more I can get an excellently-equipped Lariat Maverick (eventually...). Subaru has their symmetrical AWD - and that's about it (IMO). Their car tech is lagging behind in the little research I've done.

We get a lot of snow here, and the Subaru AWD is awesome; from what I've seen the Mav's AWD is almost as good which is nice.

I grew up wanting a Baja.. we'll see what they come up with, but so far the Maverick is a known entity, and a mostly good one so far.

LOL! Have you seen Subaru at car shows? It screams mainstream Coloradoan with the laid back outdoorsy vibe, kayak on top, mountain bike, tent, they even had a friendly German Shephard in their booth that slobbered all over me, etc. They are a lifestyle vehicle, like Harley or Jeep, where you buy one not so much just because of the vehicle but in order to join that club and project that image that the birkenstocks and bunch of coexist and rainbow bumper stickers were not able to convey on their own. 😁

For better or for worse, Ford doesn't really have that niche image baggage to go with it, and is pretty neutral.

Subaru been fuxin with plugin hybrid crosstrek, and if they could get the parts right now they would be selling the bejeezus out of those right now. Just my intuition, I am no expert.

If they could truckify that, like a parallel platform as the Escape-Maverick they could have an easy winner, probably no matter how baja/santa cruzy it looked. They’ve got that brand momentum, but I wonder if they will miss the window of opportunity if it takes them 3-5 years to catch up into this new (long desired) return of the small truck market. Maybe not very tow-oriented, but as we can see from the hybrid Maverick demand, that’s not necessarily what’s driving this small truck market.

To me the only thing that sounds more unattractive than my XLT Hybrid Atkins cycle engine, is the exhaust note of a Subaru. If I won a Subaru, I'd sell it and get a...................Ducati. @mrjspence speaks truth, Subaru is the unofficial car of Colorado and even before pandemic, you were likely paying MSRP on that or they'd laugh you off the lot.

On my current Outback I had to spend $3k on a transmission rebuild before 70k miles. Now it is starting to burn oil at 100k and I'm hoping the head gasket doesn't go before my Maverick arrives. It isn't a bad car, I've owned a VW so I have experienced worse, but I don't see myself buying another. They are good in the snow but the brand really doesn't represent good value for what you are getting.

Having owned 3 and living in Colorado (not the front range) I'm the one without the coexist sticker, I do have a Marine and NRA sticker. I have had exceptional luck with mine combined mileage well over 600,000. on my 2010 I did have a headgasket blow but Subaru fixed it free at 100,000 miles. Would I consider a subaru pickup ,yes if it looked like a Maverick and not a Baja. But Subaru styling is bland as hell, doesn't bother me but my wife is tired of subarus.. I've always had cvt with the 4 cyl. But Subaru's are very very niche along the front range and I actually hate that about them

As a current Subaru owner, it would be a very hard choice for me. I like Maverick because of its perfect size and real truck style, not a toy, not too juvenile. On the other hand, my 2013 Outback has been so reliable and I expect the new Baja will be, too.
Since its a subi… itll probably not be really a comparable pricepoint to the maverick. Did you consider this? If money isn’t an option then do your thing. But a 2022 outback already starts at the price of my Maverick XLT with 4K towing package lol so for many of us, itll be maverick vs not having a truck. Baha vs ranger. Id also be surprised if the base baha isn’t their underpowered 2.5 Boxer 4. Which is no bueno for the size of vehicle IMO.
