Seems like a lot of people are behind on Subaru's progress with reliability, they're above average. This segment is exactly where they should be. They were ahead of their time with the Baja and Brat design in this segment IMO. They could retool and build it in their existing factory in Layfette, IN here in the states.
The only thing I don't like is their continued use of the 2.5 and lack of the 2.4 direct injection turbo stateside, and I doubt that will change based on their history. That and their CVT, I'm always shy of any CVT, although on the Ford it's not the same old CVT it used to be that gave them so many issues. Other companys use eCVT and a proper first gear to avoid issues, but we'll see what gets announced 😉 .

We leased three Subarus. '13, '16 (total loss accident), and a '17. All were trouble free. They do sound like cement mixers when first started, but trouble free.

My wife is on her 2nd WRX. The first was an 03 we bought in 08 with 89k. We drove it until 19 when the ABS module faild and she hit a ??? Small sedan. It only had 140k then we had 0 issues the entire time we owned it. With the exception of the OE radiator cracking the plastic, I replaced with an aftermarket 2 pass aluminum. In 19 we bought a 17 WRX with 34k, the sensor that tells the computer what gear your in failed 500 miles before the warranty expired, but no issues since. If Subaru released a truck that would hold a 4x8 sheet of plywood and tow more that my Maverick I would be super tempted. Now couple that with a MT... 🤤 If the price was decent it would be a shut up and take my money situation.

In my opinion, Subaru is way behind the curve on a small AWD ‘truck’ and hybrids. With their close hookup with Toyota, there’s no reason Subaru couldn’t be hybridized across the board. I know they tried small truck with the Baja, but that was a weak, peculiarly styled effort.

I love my 10 year old, 200k mile 2.5 Outback. It handles everything thrown at it, commuting, beaches, light trail. It’s a beast in our torrential downpours. It’s very comfortable and easy and fun to drive. But it has been higher maintenance than my past Japanese vehicles, which has been surprising and disappointing. This past week I had a brand new Ascent as a loaner while my car was in the shop. Pretty amazing vehicle, although way too much car for my needs as a single parent of one.

I would have strongly considered another Outback before I ordered my Mav if Subaru had a hybrid version, but they don’t.

The reason I'm driving a Maverick is that my 2009 Subaru Forester was starting to be consumed by northern NY road salt-induced rust and the new Foresters didn't have the towing capacity that the old ones did. My Forester was trouble-free and was one of my all-time favorite vehicles.

I really love the Maverick so far though, and time will tell if it becomes a new favorite!
