Yep, there's lots of details missing in the OP original post not to mention the dealer mentioned is not known for having a very good reputation. Although nothing is bullet proof, something just seems suspicious imo.

As the famous broadcaster Paul Harvey use to say, "And now... the rest of the story"
Paul Harvey was one of a kind. Rest his soul.

I would put a used one in without a doubt. Why are the 8F35 Transmissions terrible? If you drain an fill fluid every 30k... I have not seen widespread problems with the 2.0L -- 8F35 or 2.5L Hybrid HF45 at all? 🤷‍♂️
There are some out there who like to bash the 8F35 trans, but I'm like you, I haven't heard of any widespread issue's with them. Sure there are a few that need attention but that includes the HF45 also. You have to treat them right and change the fluid regularly.

Just found out from Autonation Ford here in Mobile that my 2022 Maverick needs a new transmission for over $10,000. Apparently one of the gears has gone and there's metal in the transmission fluid. Warranty has expired and I still owe money on that car. I hope people read this and bypass buying any Ford product.
I think some people will read it and realize that an extended warranty is cheap insurance...
Any manufactured product can have problems, and because yours did doesn't mean they are all likely to fail.

Anecdotal, but what I've seen here over the past 4.5 years is significantly more 8F35 failures than the hybrid transmission. 2.0 and 2.5 issues are almost unheard of.
The 8f35 is a ticking time bomb design. There is no way to change the internal filter, so the transmission will, eventually, either choke itself off of fluid or will allow metal particulates through, grenading the rest of the system.

The hybrid, OTOH, is a time proven design Ford has used for well over a decade without significant issue, likely due to influence from Toyota. Most of Ford's best parts came form the Japanese, the Ranger was a Mazda truck, the OG taurus had that yamaha engine, and the duratec V6s were descendent from another Mazda engine design.

The 8f35 gets bashed because it is an intentionally poor design. Building a filter that cannot be changed into a transmission is the definition of planned obsolescence.

It also has a nasty reputation from well before the Maverick. It was failing in Transit connects before this, and the two transmissions it was built from, the 6f35 and chevy 9T50, both had the same issue of self grenading due to a non serviceable filter and other cheap parts in the 6f35's case.
Isn’t 10,000$ aweful high for pulling,repairing it,putting a transmission Back in?
Depends. If its a new one, a new transmission is ~$7500, and you have to count the 19 or so hours of labor its going to take to rip the truck apart, replace the transmission, put it back together, and program it.

Obviously no is is going to celebrate a transmission failure, but it's absolutely worth fixing given the cost of new vehicles. I would explore the rebuilt transmission at a transmission shop or reputable independent shop, unless you can find a low mileage used one from LKQ that the shop will guarantee the labor on (if you get a dud, they will replace it). That's also kinda the reason most shops will not do used engines or transmissions anymore, though.

And before you spend $4-6K on transmission, have the shop do a full inspection of the vehicle so you're not mentally exasperated and / or financially strained if there is other major maintenance coming up.

-----

May as well put these datacenters everyone loves so much to good use.

Here is a summary of the expected costs and labor times for replacing the 8F35 transmission on a 2022 Ford Maverick 2.0 EcoBoost:

1. Low Mileage Used Unit
Sourcing a used transmission from a wrecked donor vehicle is often the most cost-effective route, but pricing depends heavily on the mileage and condition.

  • Cost Range: $1,800 to $3,000
  • The Details: Current salvage network prices show 8F35 units with 20,000 to 45,000 miles typically selling between $2,400 and $2,800. You will also need to factor in $200 to $300 for commercial freight shipping. Some Maverick owners have reported finding lower-mileage units locally from salvaged vehicles for as low as $1,800.
  • Note: You must ensure the used unit is specifically matched to your drivetrain, as the FWD and AWD versions have different setups.
2. Rebuilt / Remanufactured Unit
If you want the peace of mind of fresh internal components (clutches, seals, and updated hard parts), a remanufactured unit is the standard choice.

  • Cost Range: $3,200 to $3,700
  • The Details: Pre-rebuilt, dyno-tested units from transmission suppliers generally run between $3,200 and $3,600. Many suppliers will require a "core charge" (where you ship them your broken transmission in the crate the new one came in), or they may offer a discount of a few hundred dollars if you exchange your faulty unit. These remanufactured units usually include a warranty ranging from 1 to 3 years.
3. Labor Hours
Labor times are dictated by industry estimating guides and depend on whether your truck is Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) or All-Wheel Drive (AWD).

  • FWD Base Time: ~10.6 hours
  • AWD Base Time: ~12.3 hours
Real-World Labor Costs: While those are the strict factory times, independent shops use "customer pay" estimating guides that scale up the factory time by 20% to 30% to account for real-world conditions, swapping over accessories, and flushing the transmission cooler lines.

  • Expect a shop to quote you for 13 to 16 billable hours.
  • At an average independent shop rate of $130 to $180 per hour, labor alone will cost roughly $1,700 to $2,800.
Total Out-the-Door Estimates
  • Used Swap: Expect to pay roughly $3,700 to $5,800 total (used transmission + labor + fluids/shipping).
  • Remanufactured Swap: Expect to pay roughly $4,900 to $6,500 total (rebuilt transmission + labor + fluids/shipping).

72 and 84 month financing options exist. ;)
And 48 months. Could've been bought new in 2023, or used at any time. Not hard to believe a payment is still due on a 4 year old vehicle.

Yes, 48 month is possible as well. As for new 22's in 2023, very unlikely. 22's cleared off the lots before the 23's arrived, demand was well above supply back then. Post history shows the OP bought the 22 used in 2023.

Well, that's only 3 years. Most people buying a 1 year old vehicle will finance for 5 years. Not hard to believe there's payments still being made.

Most 8F35's in Mavericks are toast by 100k.

Sorry OP about your trans.

I didn't brought my case before for stupidity, laziness and lack of time.

2022 xlt 2.0 just shy of 40k, driven like a granny, 80-90% of the time no highways. Hot as hell on the Caribbean, no mayor hills around. Yes trans oil was changed with whole the 40k mile service by ford at 38k.

Like 3 months ago a lil oil mark or spot was found between the engine and trans, the thing was so small that even the cover was completely clean and no signs of oil whatsoever, but following instructions I called ford they told me to bring it right away, since the spot was so small I brought it few days later, in less than a week it was done (trans retainers or seals) , in thext few days a lil clunk was showing up from time to time , the problem wasn't the trans it was like something loose and only happened while braking or making a big turn, once again I called and they told me the bring it back, on the middle of test drive with the guy no matter what we did we couldn't replicate problem ( and believe we tried everything, i never drove the truck so hard never, but the problem just didn't popep up) so I agreed that if the problem pop again to call the tow and deliver it to the dealer, everything has been perfect ever since.

My point is things happens and sometimes we cannot see it coming, if it wasn't for the guy who spot the Lil mark maybe my truck would be in the same situation than the OP, but at the same time you could do everything by the book or better and no matter what without signs S. Happens.

Hopefully the OP could get a used one with warranty that is good enough to restore his trust on the truck, if no matter what he cannot find peace with the truck selling might be a option. Really sucks specifically when you sacrificed to get a vehicle that is supposed to be new because 8k is beyond new, prior to my mav pretty much almost all my cars where 60k miles or order but that why exactly I spent almost half of the price of the mav fixing it and still was stranded lot of the time. Good luck OP and hopefully this doesn't keep popping up to others members.

There is zero data showing 'most' 8F35s are toast by 100k.
Plenty of posts right here. Enough that it is unreasonable to expect 150k+ out of them.
