I have used a Valentine One since 2005, it is expensive but it will alert front and rear up to 2 miles depending on terrain, it also shows you if the signal is to the front or rear or either side. They’re still in business, you can get repair parts or send it in to have it repaired or upgraded if radars change. But remember they are starting to use drones, like they used planes in the past.

I prefer it mounted down low so the cops cant see it. And yes, it still picks up radar behind me.

IDK how extensive the use of drones is, but if the cops go back to using VASCAR, detectors are obviously worthless against that.

The Valentine One was always a top-rated detector, but needless to say, no detector can work if the RADAR is left off most of the time (which most cops do). In order to get a warning there must be a vehicle reasonably close in front traveling at a speed high enough to get shot and enough of that signal must make it back to the detector.

The Valentine is good, and can save your butt sometimes, but there are too many scenarios where no detector will help.

Sure. I figured someone who had done one specifically on a Maverick could have some input.
I hard wired my Viofo camera without any issues. Just be patient and careful when you remove the passenger side plastic trim - it has some funcky connectors and clips 😁

Use a splitter when you get to the fuse box and double check power on/off before you close things up.

I'd be more worried about that red vehicle in the garage.

Speaking of hiding the detector, IDK how often this happens but I've heard that cops following a group of cars that are all speeding will pulse their RADAR to see who hits their brakes -- to determine who has a detector, and then light them up.

BTW, years ago I had a former MSP cruiser. They had left the spotlight on the A pillar which helped clear the hammer lane when people saw me approaching them. I had a remote display detector that could not be seen from outside the car. I can't recall the brand butt it worked well. The receiver was mounted behind the grill.

That’s what I plan to do for the Viofo but for the radar detector I want to tap the power running to the camera right above the mirror.

Great idea as you can get it done much faster.
Remember that it never happened if you don't post pics 😂

I don't know of any agency that users VASCAR. It's all radar for moving cars and LIDAR (laser) while the cop is stationary (that's not saying they don't use radar while stationary).

Any tips or pictures for tapping the camera power? That’s my long term plan!
It's been a couple years so I can't remember which wires I tapped in to but I followed a guide on here about installing a homelink mirror to find which wires to use and this is the tap I used, you just slide them in beside the wire going into the plug and then ziptie the the wires harnesses together.

I did a quick search and it looks like it is rare. One exception is your home state of PA, because apparently municipal depts are not allowed to use RADAR or LIDAR.

My wife and I travel all over the country and occasionally see the VASCAR lines on the highway. Many may be left over but some look fresh.

Hopefully VASCAR use will remain rare because there's no defense against it -- esp if the drivers are pulled over several miles down the road, so it isn't obvious where their speed was measured.

Good point. While I periodically see lines, I've never seen them being used, but the lines do exist. Like you, I mostly drive in areas covered by the MD State Police and the Frederick Sheriffs.

This is all actually good discourse and wasn't necessarily expecting it from either side! I generally don't drive fast enough to get a ticket but I do like having the advanced notice of when law enforcement may be around looking to ticket someone.

I do drive spiritedly on road trips. Is it worth the money? Most likely not. Until it saves me from a ticket....
There are those times when we're not paying close attention to our speed and just enjoying the ride and before you know it, there's red/blue flashing lights in your rear view. Radar detection would be useful in those situations.

Cops can’t tell it’s a detector for me when it’s under the mirror. Same as a dash cam
