Every time before shutting down my engine, I always power the AC off. However, every time I start the engine, the AC is automatically on. I don’t understand why this is happening. I would assume that the AC State should be the same at startup as it was when the engine was shut down. anyone else noticing this?

From your profile, I can't tell what year Maverick you have.
My 2023 hybrid XLT does Not automatically turn on the AC when I start the truck, if I turned it Off using this button.

It is designed to do this as a native feature rather than a bug

OK, so yours behaves the way that I would expect it to, the way it should act. Looks like maybe on my 2025 Maverick 2.0 XLT they have changed it for some reason which is rather dumb because the last thing you want on startup is to start it under the AC load. :(

I wonder if that was that a 25-26 change??
It's not, my 22 does this as well. It turns on based on ambient temperature and humidity. If you live in an area with low humidity it might not happen to you.

🤔 I wonder if I can test this out, by putting a small humidifier inside my truck.

No reason why it wouldn't, humidity is humidity. I cannot recall if the manual mentions the threshold for it, but my guess would be that it be 60% or higher (40-60% is considered idea humidity FYl).

Interesting. However, they should’ve put a 10 or 15 second delay after the engine starts. That way, the engine isn’t struggling to turn over the compressor before it fires up. :(

I.C.E. vehicles have a delay before engaging the AC compressor.
Modern vehicles intentionally delay the engagement of the air conditioning compressor. Today's computerized Engine Control Units (ECUs) manage the load to protect the engine, enhance efficiency, and balance system pressures.
Case in point.

My previous 2018 Buick Encore along with my wife's current 2016 Ford Escape both would engage the compressor shortly after the engine started. Because I have a hybrid and it has a different air conditioning system I will use my wife's Escape for a short video of the engine being started. You can hear the compressor engaging seconds after the engine starts. You can't judge the compressor starting by the interior fan.

I made sure it was hot enough in the car I had the thermometer in the shade on the console.
I'll have to buy an oven thermometers to record the interior temperatures here🏜

On my 22 Mav, the A/C does NOT automatically turn on so long as I have selected the button to push air only out of the top vent (that's the button with the arrow pointing right at the throat of the little man). I only get ambient air flow with this selection. Have to separately push the A/C. Hope this helps.

I was raised by a perfectionist mechanical engineer with raging undiagnosed autism, and I have still never once worried about that in 40 years of driving.

The AC compressor is not engaged when starting the engine. In fact, there is about a 5 to 10 second lag after the engine has started before the AC compressor engages.

Ok. I just installed the ScanGauge 3, so I should be able to test this by looking at the engine load….

You have to watch your scan gauge real close. As I show my video, the compressor engages very quickly 1-2 secs. after the engine starts.
