So far… Five replies noting six vehicles and none were “totaled”. I can add a couple neighbors also not totaled.

Well....one thing is for sure...in that video in this thread, that is NOT baseball sized hail. It was "golfball" at best. Just an observation. Oh...and the OP's Mav is NOT totaled. What is this world of insurance coming to???

Baseballs don’t represent every ball of hail in a storm. We always mention the big one. I had a storm destroy my neighborhood, not just our cars. We all said “softball”. Unfortunately frost-free freezer made our claims shrink quickly. Two weeks after I got the car back, at a game, my daughter hit a foul ball which hit my recent repair and showed us what softball sized hail would have done

Folks don't realize different size hail can develop within the same storm.

Yeah, I understand that as I work in the “hail industry”, but watching that video, I didn’t see one that was bigger than a golf ball and there was a whole bunch of hail falling. That’s all I was pointing out. Not saying there wasn’t a big one, but I didn’t see “baseballs”.

The insurance company will do whatever is cheapest for them. Probably replace the glass and the hood and take out the dents.

Yeah I remember when I was stationed in MO how the weather was crazy like that-- sorry about what happened to you -- on a side note I remember people somehow heating up and then cooling down the ding areas and they would pop back for the most part - I can't remember where I saw that though give it a search

If he reports it to insurance he's screwed. They'll want panel repl;acement and that gets expensive fast.

If I were OP I'd just get the glass replaced. Maybe do PDR on the body panels. The truck is beaten, but it still runs and drives fine and safety is not compromised outside the glass.

Why is he screwed for reporting it to his insurance? That is why you have insurance. Who cares how expensive it gets. You pay your deductible and comprehensive pays the rest. It's not your concern if insurance pays 5, 10, or 15 thousand. You are paying your $500 deductible and getting back a fixed car.

Couldn’t agree more, if I planned on trading my car I wouldn’t want it reported to keep the history clean but plan on giving this to my son when he turns 16 in 2 years so hopefully I will find out tomorrow what the estimate is.

Somebody is going to be driving around in a nice truck with some dents and new glass...

Edit: Or maybe not.. PDR Repair of Hail Damage
If they want to total it, take the settlement less the residual value of keeping the truck, get it fixed for a fraction of the net settlement cost plus new glass, and put the leftovers in a CD....
Of course, after getting a firm estimate up front, but then you'd also have a salvage title...
Nevermind.

In Missouri you can make that salvage title turn into a Prior-Salvage Title (if that's the route it goes).
Have to bring repair receipts to an inspection is all - show it was done.
New title.
That would likely still require some explaining to a potential buyer what it means.

I guess you don’t read very well, as I was just talking about that one video. Go back and watch it.

Got the truck home today and was able to look over it more. Still waiting on the adjuster but every panel has damage minus the tail gate and front bumper. Also almost every panel has paint flaking as well. I was surprised how bad the roof was. Around the 3rd brake light is a really big dent and the whole roof is peeling.
