EDIT: I bought the tri-fold, thanks for the input folks.

Welp, I have decision paralysis. I'm looking between two Rough Country bed covers, have eliminated the idea of the inexpensive soft or tri-folds. I know there are many threads on the topic, mea culpa for being indecisive.

Hard Roll Up Bed Cover @ $750
Hard Tri-Fold Flip Up Bed Cover @ $850

The price difference is not much of a concern as I see it as a long term buy.

I need mostly to keep random opportunists from grabbing stuff I might have in the bed when I'm in the city and to be able to haul stuff without having to remove the cover (so, the flip-up and roll up both fit that last need easily). I know with the less expensive tri-folds that don't flip they can easily be removed but if I have my dogs in the cab I won't really have a place to put the trifold if the bed is otherwise stuffed full.

I do live in a rainy part of the country so a slightly higher degree of rain protection is desired.

Opinions and experiences welcome.

I've been very happy with my LEER HF650M Quad-Folding cover. Folds all the way up to the window if you need all the bed. While it does block the window when folded it is still below the 3rd brake light. It is only 2 large wing-nuts to unscrew to remove it completely. It also works with the TruXedo Elevate TS Rails.

I haven't seen it go on sale again like it was when I bought it though.

I don't know I bought a cheap hard trifold from Amazon. Which I am very happy with. I haven't any personal reviews on either one you were asking about. I can tell you when I was trying to decide, I had watched a truck king video. The video was a comparison between trucks but they couldn't get the hard roll up to open. It was frozen shut, comes standard on a Santa Cruz. That swayed me from thinking of a roll up because we get a lot of snow and ice in northern Michigan. Hope this information is helpful.

I'd take the tri fold, fewer joints = fewer places to leak.

Although in my experience a full bed cap is easier to waterproof then any sort of bed cover.
+1..... finally got our ordered '26 Mav in and purchased a tri fold for it on Amazon. Usually like the more secure retractable ones (i.e. Retrax, Jack Rabbit, etc), but given the limited bed storage space in the Mavericks decided on a inexpensive secureable tri fold instead for the same reasons.

I lean folding over rolling, but there's something to be said for being about to see out the rear window (on those few occasions when you need to fully open it, but are carrying something that doesn't, itself, block your view).

I love my hard roll up! I was torn on making a choice as well. I think the hard roll up looks better.

I have hard roll up and would have the same again. No leaks and it rolls on a rail into a solid top.
Honestly, if the truck happened to come with a foldable, I’d still be happy (hard tops rule IMO).
Best thing to do if at all possible, is find the two examples and take closer look.
It should be personal preference, like choosing truck color or power train.

I think the Santa Cruz was a “roll down” which uses bed space but doesn’t block the view.

I just know it wasn't a trifold. Whatever the Santa Cruz comes with, I don't want no part of it. If there is a different type I would also worry in ice or cold situations. When you need to use the bed, you need to be able to remove a portion of all of it for anything taller or needing to stack. Thank you

So after looking at the two Rough Country covers linked by the OP, the tri-fold “looks” much better. If those are the choices, I would flip to the flip (also maybe why the prices are as shown).

I have the Rough Country fold/flip as well. I'm happy with it. The roll up is nice enough. But I've seen a few jam or otherwise become hard to operate over time. No such issues with the fold/flip. I'm happy with mine. I keep it closed most of the time. But I loved the access to the entire bed on those 2 occasions I needed it.

I have the Rough Country tri-fold flip up cover. Don't expect it to be 100% watertight. No knock on the cover but due to the design of the Maverick bed there will be some seeping at the bulkhead and on the sides where the trim pieces overlap. I plan on removing my rails and addressing this better soon. The cover is easy to open and remove if needed to avoid blocking the rear window. I have not driven with it flipped up but I did flip it up to load bags of mulch then lowered it back over them. A tailgate seal kit is a good addition. I order 1 from ESI on Amazon, sorry don;t have a link.

I have a hard roll up and love it. I went this way for the obvious reasons, no blockage of rear window and I like the look.
