A tri-fold item is an item that folds twice into three sections. I've never seen a tri-fold tonneau that didn't have 3 panels (like a tri-fold wallet, 3 panels and two hinges). Are you saying that a hard trifold with three panels that doesn't flip up is a bi-fold? Those have been called tri-fold much longer than flip-up tonneaus have been available...
I think what they are trying to say is that on some of the less expensive tri-folds, the last section, that is closest to the cab, does not fold. It is secured to the bed to stabilize the other two sections but itself does not move. Only two of the sections actually fold. Two folding sections = bi-fold. Just a tongue-in-cheek way of asking why they call it a tri-fold when all three section do not fold :)

They're saying that tri-fold tonneaus are actually bi-fold, which is incorrect. The terms "bi" and "tri" represent number of sections that fold together not the number folds.

You are right. English is a pain in the butt, but I thought it was a clever and comical way of distinguishing the cheap tri-folds from the nicer tri-folds because the nicer tri-folds do fold three times. The third fold is when it folds up against the cab of the truck :)

Many of the manufacturers call them "flip up" tri-folds. I think that's sufficient and clever enough to distinguish the difference. They're not actually folding three times. If they did, they would be called quad-fold.

Anyone have trouble putting it on? I got mine and it seems too wide. It does not want to fit. The track on the rails also wants to fall into the bed. I don’t know how to get it level and stable.

Now that I'm using the cover regularly on the Ranger, I've found one item to highlight. Unlike …
My install is going horribly. The tracks want to fall in towards the bed. I have them tight, but it seems like the role is too wide for it. Any tips?

Sorry, I can't offer any tips on a Frontier. I'm not at all familiar with that bed.

They all look pretty similar curious if it was a problem or really just difficult . It’s like roll is too wide .

on the two brackets in the rear are yours level or do they lean downwards? The brackets the roll connects to near the cab

Check to see if there is a thin wall that runs along the bed rail downturn. If you are positioning the clamps behind the downturn, that may be the problem. Mine are in between that thin piece and the downturn. I could see where going behind the downturn might pull the track down.

Look closely at my second picture and you'll see the inner clamp is not behind the bed rail; it is nearly straight up. It's in between two pieces there.

Do hard and soft roll up tonneau covers, still rely on velcro along the sides?
