In 1973 Ford and GM published in their manuals 7,500 miles between oil changes. Leaded gasoline. You couldn't see the dipstick through the blackness of the oil. This is one reason I don't implicitly believe what a manufacturer says or instructs.

Wow!! I just paid $64 for the oil and filter. Last time I did it myself for less than $50!

Looking at the recall list on the Maverick, after things like the backup camera failure, you can understand I'm not so trusting in "manufacturers know best". Its more like "manufacturers know how to get just outside warranty".
I mean that’s kinda crazy lol everyone else is talking engine oil, have there been recalls on engines?

The Atkinson engine was recalled once (twice?) for having chunks of metal in the oil. Caused leaks & fires.

Oil going nuts right now because of the Iran conflict. One of the refineries destroyed was one that made the base material used in synthetic engine oil and other lubes.

Thanks for reminding me, I need to go pick up some oil, prices wont be coming down anytime soon.

We can do what our fathers and grandpas did and change the oil every 3000 miles or we can embrace the engine and lubricant technologies and enjoy our vehicles for a few hundred thousand more miles than they did…

The crankshafts (bad castings) would hand-grenade... Creating large openings in the "Aluminum" oil pans, which lead to the fires...

I will be doing my oil change this afternoon. Oil life is down to 6% but only 2500 miles since the last one almost a year ago.

About every three days, someone posts a new oil change thread that will go on for 20 pages. We sure love talking about our oil. 😂
Only one post needed for oil changes… the one where the thread starts “blown engine”. THEN I may pay attention. I drive low miles in harsh conditions and my computer takes me down in 9-10 months.

Be patient - it takes over five years of oil change neglect to blow an engine. Oldest Maverick Trucks are barely 4 years old:)

My OLM will hit 0% before I reach 2,000 miles since last oil change.

I think the 12 month limit is more important than mileage. Even the folks that push the limit on the “High Mileage 20,000 Mile” oil are ok - as long as they change it in 12 months.

Apparently my local Ford dealer knew it was almost time for my oil change. They kept calling for me to bring it in but I still do my own oil changes. Just checked my Ford app, Oil life back to 100%. Should be good for another year!
