Actually poster was coming up on 10K miles.
.
.

Have you ever noticed how many miles since last oil/filter change when the OLM is saying 50%, since you are glancing at it?
OP was asking forum’s opinion on waiting until 30,000 for the 2nd oil change - I opined “no”.

It has been about 800 miles since my break-in oil change @900 miles.
My OLM is showing 55% today…

I did my break-in oil change early 9/25 - just about 6 months ago.

A couple dozen 100+ degree days, many short trips, and only a few Italian Tune Ups make me an “extreme” user.

So it makes sense my OLM is 55% after only 800 miles. Will be down to 0% before I drive 1600! I’ll actually be changing it sooner than that because I suspect oil dilution. Will be sending oil samples off for evaluation soon. I always enjoy/learn from your post btw - thanks:)

Did you manually reset the so-called oil life "monitor" when you changed the oil?

Yep, changed the reset to 100% via the Maverick’s on board menu - I’m not connected to Ford App. Also, logged in my oil change into my Maintenance Records on the Ford Website.

Have watched the OLM % decline as the miles have rolled by. It is a nifty system in my opinion!

I believe it is much more complex & useful than a calendar only based system - even though an accurate calendar based system would show the same OLM (55%) after almost 6 months as my current OLM states.

I imagine there are many folks 5.5 months into new oil that show higher % than my Maverick’s 55% - even with more miles than my 800:)

I'm back to talk about that proverbial question when do you do the oil change.
personally, I do it every ten oil change threads!

I trust a dumb sensor designed by Ford's engineering
Wow, when they add that?

All my '25 has is a calculation based on top length, air temperature, throttle use, oil & engine temperature, and a few other indicators.

Can I retrofit a dumb sensor?
🤔

It takes about 6 months for 10 oil change threads - so you should be good!

Hopefully all the sensors have robust capacitors to carry the data though the deep sleeps, dead batteries, and any resets done;)

Are the sensors programmed by the same folks at Ford that programmed the charging circuit parameters and can't seem to get the car to shut down when you turn it off do the battery continues to discharge rather rapidly? Yeah, no thanks, I'll just watch the odometer.

My OLM is currently showing that I have 500 miles left but I have only put 2000 miles on since the last change. This is probably due to the time factor since I did my last oil change in April of 2025. I don’t like to go more than a year between oil changes no matter how few miles of actual usage.

2023 Maverick Hybrid Lariat I'm back to talk about that proverbial question when do you do the oil change. My last oil change was at $15,000 miles I had a synthetic oil and filter change tire rotation etc at the dealer of which I wont do again via the dealer. The dealer sticker on the windshield says come in at 25000 miles; now at 24700 I'm getting alerts on my Ford app and in the vehicle that I'm due for an oil change. I was hoping to wait until 30,000 miles so I could do it all at that one time transmission oil change the full 30,000 maintenance. However now I'm getting nervous if I don't do this oil change within 450 mi which the app is telling me to do will my vehicle suffer irrefutable damage? Thank you
The sticker on the window can't calculate Idling time, I idle with my AC on in the summer and heat on in the winter, I change my oil every 5 to 7k, 100 bucks is not going to kill me, I rotate my tires every other oil change. For me that's about once a year, bin doing that for as long as I can remember, driving over 50 years.
When I had my 22 FX4 the oil change light would come on WAY BEFORE the sticker on the windshield, stickers can't calculate idling time, the vehicle can.

Interesting.

I just did oil/filter last Fri - OLM 1% in truck, 2% in app.
Made it 11112.

Fillup on Sun - so I always log the OLM% and miles remaining.
So those 2 days was very little city driving on Sat, all highway on Sun. 96 miles total after change.

Ford App/truck at 100% OLR - estimated 5500 miles remaining in app.

It appears to think if I keep this driving up, meaning almost total ICE (some EV in there) - I'll be allowed 5500 miles.
I know that will increase.
Hmmmm - mighty close to 5k miles there.

Even that 11K had almost 3K highway miles on trip to NY and back. But pretty gentle.

Curious - how many months before you hit 1%?

Estimated miles to next oil change is a neat feature. I don’t think I get that - being unconnected to the App…

1st change was time based - as I hit 1 year exactly since activated (by dealership after received), before I got near 10K - only 9221. (I did break-in change at 1600, didn't reset OLM)

This time 10 months (minus 5 days) for that 11K - totally because of the long highway speed trip.
The app on this 2nd OLM countdown totally changed how it estimated remaining distance, and gave no service date estimate like 1st OLM countdown did.

I did mine early for my hybrid at 4800 miles and 10 months. It is my initial one, and I also got an tire rotation and the airbag light recall done. $0 out of pocket due to the Ford Points.

My previous vehicle I probably did closer to every 9000 miles and when I traded it in at 134000 miles never had oil related issues.

The sticker the dealer put on the windshield was for 6 months and around 7000 miles :)

I usually do them at 5k intervals except for the time I trailered a mini excavator 800 miles. Truck was making some funny noises and the slight valve pinging after the trip. One oil change later and no more noises and valve pinging. I think I was about 3 or 4k already in from the previous change when that happened.
