I guess so however "Robertson" sq drive seems better then old torx(experience) remember Ford seemed to pioneer "posidrive" the only other company that I found it on was on the door latch posts on Mack trucks, the European 3 tri (yuch) is another piece of the "mix" a long with"spider drive" ad nauseum, for petes sake munus standardize on something( anybody remember"clutch drive?
Probably a good thing, original torx is too delicate for stuff that has been installed years, picked up some corrosion or the the antisieze hardened up, meaning you need 50% more breakout torque then they were designed to take. Stripped and spiralled plenty of bits that way.

Torx PLUS VS Torx

I started this thread because a lot of folks don't understand the differences between Torx PLUS &Torx. Ford uses Torx Plus on our Mavericks.
The difference between regular Torx and Torx Plus is pretty significant. It becomes a difference between stripping out the bolt and not stripping it. Here are some pictures and a short 9-second video.
Yesterday I received my Torx Plus bit set. $21.06 on Amazon. Link 👇🏻

This video shows the slop using a Torx in a Torx plus fitting. For those thinking it. Yes they are the same size. T45/TP45

Thanks!

They have. It's called Torx Plus Tamper Resistant. Five lobes with a pin in the middle.
I already have two different sets of assorted tamper-proof bits, but not Torx+. Thanks!

Mike,
I just did a cursory look.
Harbor Freight still doesn't carry Torx Plus.🤷‍♂️
Did not see them at Lowe's Saturday, and didn't see them at Auto Zone today. In fact, the guy working at Autozone had never heard of them.

EDIT: For anyone who's curious, that is a "30pcs alternator freewheel pulley removal set."

I just grabbed it as an example of 'special tools' that very few of us need.

Glen, please include a "$" in the subject line when you post about something I didn't know I needed. :)

Amazon delivered the set you recommended yesterday.

All I’m gonna say is “Why so damn many”? 3 torx, 5 screwdriver heads, imperial, standard, metric, etc etc etc! It never stops! WTF happened to “one size fits all”? 🤔😉
that went out with the "gunsmiths" of course Eli Whitney( like a good Yankee )standardized things a bit

If all you ever do on the Maverick, is remove the lower Splash Shield to change the oil. You probably don't need to buy the Torx Plus.
In my situation torch Plus would have been handy to have, when tightening the bolt for the tailgate damper bracket.

ETA: Got it out today and torched the grass burs in my yard already setting seed. Thanks Glen for mentioning your needing your torch Plus.🤗

I got the Arana tailgate assist and the Torx wrench it came with was a T50-six lobe (with the hole for some reason), checked the fit in the tailgate cable bolt, then used an identical T50 socket (3/8, as I recall) and it worked perfectly.

Should be a Torx plus 45 as I show pictured in post #1
Sure a regular Torx 45 will fit but will be sloppy as I demonstrated in the video, also in post #1
I know your evidence doesn't lie, that's why I'm baffled. Arana sells so many of those things, and as I mentioned, the T50 fit perfectly. Ugh. At least I likely won't have to remove that bolt again anytime soon...
