I'm not OCD about organizing my tools, but I do have sockets and wrenches (mostly) organized and separated into metric and SAE, a drawer for pliers, and slotted and Phillips screwdrivers in their own drawers.

There's a drawer for air tools and impact sockets.

The largest/bottom drawer is used for large hammers, bolt cutters, pry bars, etc.

The top compartment is essentially a junk drawer. It's not pretty...

Using other sales of similar condition vans nationwide, I would have easily received $28-30k, even with the dying $20 sensor in the tranny that required a $3k operation to replace it at a shop. You couldn't buy just the sensor from Ford, you had to buy the entire valve body with it installed, and you could not buy just the valve body without also buying planetary gears etc.. So I have a rebuilt tranny because I needed to replace a $20 sensor. If I could have just bought the sensor and installed it myself, I would have. Unobtanium. The cost would have been over $9k at a Ford disservice center using same exact Ford parts (I checked), so I got away cheap-er. Oddly, it was about the same cost to have an entire rebuilt tranny installed at a disservice center; maybe that's what they do to replace a $20 sensor, I wouldn't doubt it.

Current value has dropped to about $15-17k with 160k mileage as a raw van, but around $20-22 including the campervan setup. I'm on the fence about selling it, because it's nice for roadtrips and a way to avoid $200+/night motel rooms. BUT, we only seem to have a chance to do that kind of thing a few times a year right now, and it's a ticking time bomb being a Ford with 160k miles, despite the rebuilt tranny, new front suspension, new brakes, new shocks, etc. My trophy fake-wife sure isn't going to tolerate tent camping after the luxury of the van, so if I sold it I'd have to either rent one for trips (like $200+ a day, not including fuel...) or stay in motels (ick). I've kind of decided to just buy a ready-made van like the Revel or maybe Solis new, enjoying the comfort of a warranty and the delusional idea that a new vehicle won't break down. Of course the fake-wife likes the Atlas Tommy Bahama class C, but that's not going to happen for several reason, the main one being it's too big to take on dirt backroads to secluded unimproved camping spots in the Desert Southwest.
I meant to ask, what is a "trophy fake-wife"?

Also, you probably know this but the QC on new RVs -- which has never been great -- has continued to go downhill. Buyers report dozens of problems, and long service delays. One that's 2-3 years old has likely had all of the problems fixed.

Many years ago I had a Kennedy roll around and 7 drawer machinist box at work. I spent the majority of my 10 hour days sitting cross legged on the floor wiring inside control cabinets of industrial machinery. I could reach behind myself, open any drawer and get exactly the tool I needed. Never had to look because every one was put back in the exact same place at the end of the day. The top compartment was for note pads, pencils, and flashlight. So just a tad OCD but also served me well when I went in the field doing service work. I could look at my box and instantly know if I had left a tool laying somewhere.

same as a trophy wife, but we're not married. Doesn't insulate me, though, I think it's automatically common-law after living together a certain amount of years here. At a dozen, I think I'm trapped. I should get to work creating a Trust so that assets are safe from wild hares.

Very impressive!

It's not exactly the same, but my former employer. Metrorail (D.C.) had "shadow boards" where they used spray paint to create a black outline of each tool on a white board. IDK how it was done -- I mean, if they coated the tools in paint and then washed them off before it dried? In any case, it was a good way to tell at a glance whether any tools were missing.

My tools are not as organized. I'm somewhere between you and Glen.

That's what I keep saying to my wife -- we need MORE LIFTS!
It will be at least 3, maybe 4, deepening upon the size of not-a-garage I'm able to build. If four, the last might be a two post, or I might still go with the bridge jack (if 3, definitely bridge jack!)

I threw almost $3k at my Transit(not Connect) tranny a couple years ago because I had to. I won't do that again.
we put a $3,500 brand new transmission in a 15 year old E150 about 10 years ago (it wasn't rebuildable, and no used were available in the area). On it's own, it didn't make financial sense, but we had 3 more daughters to teach to drive in the next few years, so I kept the inertial mass.

SAE & metric are mixed ๐Ÿ˜ฑ
Cats and dogs living together!
:teehee:

I put the commie, err, metric on the left side, and the american on the right.

And then I tell people my tools are "arranged republican" !!

Disgusting!

I have a couple that take a little too much space in the drawer, so they hang on hooks. To be fair though, everything would probably fit with the Glen method. ๐Ÿ˜„

This just in, it is claimed all blueberries have a T-30 divot on top, but looking at these pictures of that more blunt looking star, I would venture to say they are indeed a TP-30...

The OCD part of my brain likes that level of organization, but when it comes to my own tool chest drawers they don't stay that way long (if they ever were).

I do keep some of the combination wrenches in holders, but I don't have enough holders for all of them so the extras are stored using the Glen method.

It's sort of the same deal with the sockets. I have 3 types of organizers: 1) chrome steel strips, 2) plastic trays with holes, 3) and Strongway magnetic holders. I still have loose sockets because I stopped using the steel strips (they're too much trouble) and the plastic trays and magnetic holders don't have enough capacity.

Basically, I couldn't pass up Craftsman tools when they were on sale (back when they were made in the USA and decent quality). So I ended up with many duplicates.

Maybe with 2-3x as much drawer space and more organizers...
