245 vs 235

I went from a 225/65/17 to a 235/70/17. 0.4 inches wider 1.5 inches taller and that was my results. A loss of 4-5MPG. A 245 would be 0.8 inches wider than stock so even bigger loss. The loss of torque is noticeable too

Big hit to mpg for .75" more ground clearance.

From my post #5 above, I'll get these new wheels/tires on this week and report back on actual weights and results.

The wheels appear to be ~.5 lbs lighter than the stock (2026) XLT wheels while the new 235-65-17 Continental tires are reported to weight ~3lbs more than the stock Continentals.

I spent weeks researching 235/65/17 tires with hopes of balancing (for me only) size vs fuel economy loss, and these Continentals are reported (and do measure) at 8.1+ " tread width wide while reported weight is only 28 (I haven't weighed them yet) .

Nothing in the 235/65/17 size comes close in advertised size/weight .

I have everything in one of my garages and will report back...

For ME, my 3rd Maverick truck is just a daily driver/fishing truck to take the load off my other daily drivers..

I hear ya,
The worst I’m on is forestry roads, some climbing but if a logging truck can do it loaded I can do it on regular all season road tires. Mostly road bond # 57 gravel.

I just ripped off the stock tires and moved to 235/65/17 Firestone Destination AT/2. These were the lightest AT tires I could find to balance a more aggressive look with MPGs. Since I was keeping the stock XLT rims, I was limited if I wanted to stay under the 30 lbs mark per tire in ATs. If you are changing the rims though, you could easily get some lighter weight rims to offset a larger (heavier tire). I don't think the 245s will work on a hybrid though without some rubbing, but you would have to check to be sure.

Thinking about upgrading my wheels and tires when my OEM tires are done. I am at 15k miles now and have only had the Maverick about a year. I am a 25 Fwd Hybrid. I am actually looking at wheels that are an inch wider than the steelies and thinking about going to a 235/65 r 17 or a 245/65 r 17. Anyone that has done it what has your experience been and what would you recommend? I know either way I am looking at reduced mpg due to the rolling resistance of more rubber on the ground, and the potential weight differences.

I have the stock 18 inch rims and replaced the original 225-60-18. For 245-55-18. As per the pic exact same circumference. But the biggest difference is the actual width of the treads making contact with the ground. Stock tires are about 6.5 inches wide on tread but the 245’s are about 9 inches at tread.

Yeah Headlights, taillights, painted the grille bar gloss black, Lariat grille. Kinda liked the XLT grille better but I wanted it to look like a Lariat BAP FX4. All thats left is paint the mirrior caps gloss black

235 is better in every way except looks.
245 will look better and perform worse.

Not a huge difference between the two to be honest, but since you have a hybrid, I'd personally opt for the 235.

Overall I have been happy with them.

The ride feels about the same, maybe a little more noise. I saw no significant drop in MPG.

Like someone else pointed out, these were the lightest AT tires I could find to balance looks vs MPG.

BTW the stock wheels lasted only about 40K miles for me, I could have squeezed out some more mileage out of them.
