(I reposted this to its own thread from the "is the gas pedal adjustable thread").

I have been reviewing several of the threads here for the problem of smaller statured people having their foot slip off the bottom of the gas pedal due to its position and smallish size.

So, after reading a lot of comments and exploring the inter-web for possible answers, my favourite solution is the one I laughed at the first time I saw it on Amazon.

Please let me explain my thought process. There were many, many intricate bolt on pedal extender solutions with even more points with potential for failure. And with what it's job is (operating the accelerator pedal), failure is not an option.

My solution (K-I-S-S principle)so that my wife (5 ft...er...tall...) can comfortably and safely drive the truck without screwing it up for me as I am the primary driver was what I call an "organ pedal". Same idea as I saw on one of the other threads from an older vehicle.

I now have a plate under my weather tech floor mat, 2 holes drilled through them after siting the organ pedal appropriately, and bolting the organ pedal down with 2 nuts. One of the nuts also has a spring attached to assist with the organ pedals return to neutral position when you take your foot off the accelerator pedal.

It is important to position the "organ pedal" so that it fully engages the trucks accelerator pedal with no chance of sliding off to the left or right. Or, slipping off the bottom if you stomp it hard.

I thoroughly tested it before mounting it to the floor mat and there is no way for it to lose contact with the pedal or jam it I any way...I am kind of persnickity about these things (okay, about pretty much everyrhing), but this in particular, right now.

The only thing I would say to add is a couple drops of locktite on the threads and then tighten/secure the nuts so they won't possibly back off.

I couldn't lock wire them in place but did witness mark them for inspection in the future.

I attached 3 straps of velcro to the bottom of the metal plate (they came with the pkg) and they secured nicely to the carpet under the floor mat. I like this, as it adds another layer of security that the plate will not easily move.

The reason this came to light this week is that it finally warmed up here in Manitoba that my wife didn't have her winter (snow) boots on, and they are quite a bit larger than warm weather footwear.

Okay, I hope this helps anyone else that runs into the same issue. I will now try to add photos to help those that need a photo or two to figure out if this is a solution for them...or not. Cheers!

Hello, any photos of this?

where can I purchase this?

hello, where can I purchase this?
Good morning,

Thank you for your interest in my solution to safely add a bit of length to the Maverick gas pedal for my wife.

Here are a couple pics from a quick search on Amazon.ca and I used the search term "gas pedal extender".

The most important thing is if you use one of these devices is to ensure thst once installed, that the organ pedal does not slip off of the truck pedal during use!

Not slipping off the truck pedal if fully depressed as if under maximum acceleration, and not off the sides.

Verify the correct position before drilling holes through your floor mat...I used my Weathertech mats.

I mounted the large heavy metal plate under the mat and everything has stayed very secure...and I check it regularly to make sure that doesn't change.

The one I used is like the cheaper one below.

I hope you find something that fits your needs!

Have a good one,

Andy

scary beyond words we share the roads with people like this
I don't know, I find people who aren't paying any attention much more scary than people with small feet.

Good morning

May I politely ask what is frightening you so?

Is it the attempt to accommodate 2 different sized drivers to safely drive 1 vehicle?

If it is because of the type of pedal extender I installed, please let me reassure you (as I have already done numerous times in this thread), that it is completely safe and it is simple to install though it does require some attention to detail to ensure it is installed correctly.

Have a nice day,

Andy

Let's start at the bottom with carpet, velcro on bottom of a sizeable and STURDY metal plate (see pic's) which attaches to carpet for stability and aid in movement restriction, then two appropriately sized steel screws attach the steel bracket on the bottom of the pedal.

Also remember that the weather tech mats are attached securely at the back of the drivers foot well.

I should note that I will continue to monitor the safety and effectiveness of this mod as we go along...that is what I do.

So, there you go. As I have installed and tested it for safety and security for the task at hand which is to actuate the gas pedal, I feel for me that it is fit for purpose.

I hope this has alleviated your concerns and thanks for your feedback!

Cheers,

Andy

Andy,
That looks like a good solution for folks with small feet. Wearing size 14s I've never had that problem.

What makes this gas pedal situation so difficult is, I am 5‘2“ tall. I cannot place my heel on the floorboard and apply the gas pedal. So, my leg is in the air without any support anytime I drive. Within a few minutes the pain in my knee gets extremely severe. I’ve had five surgeries in five months on my knee. I have been looking for a solution for months. Thank you to everyone who is trying to figure this out.

I don't exactly know how that would have happened.🤷‍♂️
Here is my 14's on the gas pedal. My foot isn't slipping anywhere. I would have to try to do that.

My goodness, I hope you are doing better with all those knee surgeries!

I am thinking the "organ pedal" style I installed might be perfect for your particular needs.

I understand your issue with holding your foot and leg in the air as you drive. That is incredibly hard on a good knee and leg!

My wife is 5 ft tall and also was holding her whole leg in the air in order to reach the gas pedal.

Once I became aware of this I found and installed the pedal extender. After ensuring it is completely safe when positioned and installed correctly I brought my wife out to try it. It works perfectly I am happy to say.

It is the perfect answer for us because it is simple to install, inexpensive to purchase and does not affect the operation of the truck in any way, and can be used by both of us with no further adjustments.

If you were in our area, I would show you our installation and help you out with yours if you needed assistance...but I dont think you are, so, sorry about that.

Anything else we can help with just let us know!

Have a nice day,

Andy

I have my foot located so that I just pivot on my heel to work both pedals. So I have to work pedals more with my toes than you show. Apparently my heel would have been further to left than normal and the toe of my shoe was not high enough on gas pedal an when it depressed my toe slipped off. Was first time in 49.2k miles. 🤗

Andy, thank you so much for that information. Do you happen to have a link or the information of what I need to exactly purchase? I reside in Torrance California. I don’t know where you are so I guess I’m OOL. (Out of luck). I just hope I don’t have to do any drilling. Thanks, Dee.
