I hope they invent another different bolt head soon so I can buy yet another set of bits. Maybe with 7 tips instead of the 6 on Torx and Torx+. That way you couldn't use either, and would have to buy new bits.

This is the kind of post I'm here for! In the cart and will be in the truck by end-of-week! I love having the right tools for the right job and with a truck like the Maverick, one should be ready to tighten/loosen things.

E-Torx plus fasteners look like they're only on some sealed assemblies like Transmission, PTU, RDU, HVB.
Not likely I'll be working on those.

Quick side note: Of course it's smart to be concerned about credit card fraud, but keep in mind that the card holder is never held liable for any unauthorized use. Worst case, if the customer is grossly irresponsible, the bank can charge them $50. That's it.

Again, I'm not saying people shouldn't be careful, just that there's no need to be overly concerned about it.

There's no need to leave a card on file with retailers, because (at least in my experience) the card info auto-fills, even the security code.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming...
Well, what you said is true was if it's a credit card. If it's a debit card, it's a lot harder/time consuming to get your money back.

You forgot any of the fasteners on the tailgate on the doors. Along with the splash shield underneath the truck. And in the engine compartment.

Notice the bolt heads in those pics.
Now need a set of Torx+ sockets if desiring to work on cracking those open.

Glad they didn't make the lug nutz Torx+

Absolutely. We have debit cards but never use them for that reason.

That said, I read recently that debit cards are not as risky as we've been led to believe. I can't recall the details, but there is a delay (maybe 3 business days) before funds are removed from the customer's checking account, which helps.

Still, only credit cards allow users to dispute charges, which I've had to do a handful of times. That is a very helpful service that eliminates a lot of hassle.

Oh boy, you just had to go and give them (Ford) an idea! You're banned for life young man!!! Haha Kidding aside, don't be surprised if they come out with anything new to keep us from doing our own work.

Mfrs: "Sure, you have a 'right to repair', and we have the right to build vehicles that require absurdly overpriced "special tools"..."

The MB Sprinter van (and maybe several others) are sold with the trans dipstick tube sealed with a security cap (must break to remove). Want to check the ATF level? Oh-too-bad, that requires a "special tool". They seriously call it that, when it's a *$100* dipstick! I bought one off eBay for about $20. That's an example of what auto mfrs are doing.

Some confusion.

Gene pointed out there are external Torx+ heads on all those bolts in his pics - and the socket set to handle them.

Glen said Gene left out all the places he found Torx+, but his pics aren't the external bolt heads actually.

I was pointing out the mix up there.

As mentioned, Ford already had the idea and implemented - you do need a new socket set if cracking those items open.
Ya - my bad mentioning l*g n*tz though. shoot

And another thread about removing the oil pan - you would need them it appears for the tranny.
