Torx PLUS VS Torx
I apologize for any inconvenience.
Update: Thanks to @Mavl-ous
He brought to my attention. The T 50 is the same size as the TP 45. Very similar to some of the metric sockets being the same size or close to SAE Examples
8mm (5/16"), 10mm (3/8"), 13mm (1/2"), 16mm (5/8"), 17mm (11/16"), and 19mm (3/4").

I went back and rechecked the smaller screws along the tailgate and I couldn't find a similar matchup between TP and reg. Torx.
I started this thread because a lot of folks don't understand the differences between Torx PLUS &Torx.
Ford uses Torx Plus on our Mavericks.
The difference between regular Torx and Torx Plus is pretty significant. It becomes a difference between stripping out the bolt and not stripping it. Here are some pictures and a short 9-second video.
Yesterday I received my Torx Plus bit set. $21.06 on Amazon. Link 👇🏻

This video shows the slop using a Torx in a Torx plus fitting. For those thinking it. Yes they are the same size. T45/TP45

Same one I got when I discovered it was Torx-Plus used on so many bolts.

Seems I got mine before the import increases.

For short notice oops I need that - Harbor Freight has a 7 & 12 piece Icon kit, with case. $20 & $30 so not bad.

ETA: it appears not - depending on when you read this.

Ohhhh - was going off the Google search and it stating what the product was with picture.
But going to website - nope.

And now seeing Advance and Autozone and even Home Depot showing local pickup for your blue kit or smaller kit that states it is Plus, but going to website it's not actually in stock at local store as claimed.

Annoying.

Buy earlier, don't wait until needed!

Probably a good thing, original torx is too delicate for stuff that has been installed years, picked up some corrosion or the the antisieze hardened up, meaning you need 50% more breakout torque then they were designed to take. Stripped and spiralled plenty of bits that way.

Thanks Glen. Did not realize we had the "plus". Are all the Torx screws on Mavericks the plus ones, or just these ones you are showing? Just curious. I already have a set.

Every one of the torx screws I've loosened so far on my Maverick has been Torx+

So now I have 2 sets:
Neiko 10086A 6 Point Torx Plus Bit Socket Set
NEIKO 10287A Extra Long Socket Bits and Deep Socket Set

So far everything I've seen in my Maverick, has been a Torx Plus.

Thanks Glen. Never noticed that. Haven't had to mess with any yet...but it's great to know the difference.

Thank you for the info Glen, always wondered about the sloppy feel of my torx fasteners on the Maverick.

l’m old enough to predate metric. I have a tool chest filled with imperial tools. Another filled with metric and every Dodge /Chrysler speciality tool I’ve ever needed. My torx + bits are arriving today. Guess it will be the start of a third tool chest labelled “Ford”.
Geez!
