If you were passing me (obviously going faster), I would not speed up, in fact, I would slow it down a MPH or two to allow you to get by quicker.

I still don't understand why you would do that on a multi-lane expressway. As I prefaced above.
If I'm in the center lane doing 70 miles an hour in a 65. I have cars pass me on the left. If I slowed down for each one of them and then sped up after they passed I'd be getting car sick. Along with aggravating any drivers behind me. Especially if they had ACC.

If I see you passing me, I want you to get by me as expeditiously as possible....usually, it is just canceling the CC for a minute to allow you to get by and then I re-engage the CC and continue along my way behind you.

PS: I will say something like, "Go get 'em tiger!" when you go by, but you didn't hear me since my windows are rolled up.

And yes, hybrids get best mileage in heavy highway traffic.

After getting groceries in town. Coming back in traffic a few minutes ago. I guess everything worked out right .

During the fuel crisis in the 1970s, the US instituted a national highway speed limit of 55mph to save on fuel. My grandpa told me it was a long painful drive on I-84 between Portland and Boise at only 55mph back then! Nowadays most people are going 70-80mph on that stretch.

Drove that route a number of times back then. My God! It took foorrreverrrrrrr!

Had an 82 VW Rabbit diesel. On a hot day it would get 55 mpg. But it had 52 hp and would have been a real danger on an 80 mph road. Drove from Boise to Reno once and hit a 40 mph headwind. Had to shift down a gear in order to get up to 35 mph

Example.

I am in the center lane.
I have my cruise control set at 70mph, 5 mph over the speed limit.
I do not have adaptive cruise.
I am approaching a slower vehicle in my center lane.
I changed lanes to left in order pass them. My speed has not changed cruise control is still set.
For some reason I'm not passing them. They have sped up to match my speed and are now pacing me.
What hell is up with that??

Same thing happens all the time here in Michigan too! Like, pick a speed! Or, someone will pass me on the freeway, get into my lane, then slow down by like 10 mph...
