My sister had a boyfriend in the Navy who drove frequently from California to the Navy Information Operations Command in Aurora, Colorado.
He shoehorned a Ford 427 into his British 2 seater to make for a faster commute.
At the time, there were no Colorado speed limits either at the time according to him.

After doing 150, when you slow down to 75 it feels like you can walk along at the same speed...
So true, especially exiting the interstate to get gas.
Misjudging your speed as you get onto the 25-35mph exit ramp, sometimes will result in a few Oh Shit moments.😬

On a side note.
I always had a soft spot for Ford's 289 V8.
If I had a desire for a replica Ford Shelby Cobra. I'd prefer a 289 in such a light car. I liked the 340ci in the Cuda or Challenger versus the big block 383ci or 440ci. Those Big Blocks made the car two nose heavy for me.

Yes it does:

Despite wanting to drive a couple over, I averaged 22ish MPG for the day. I think I spent more time on the brake pedal thatn the accelerator pedal. I don't like driving to/from San Fransisco.
Hey -- good news 50 passed bigly.
And yes, hybrids get best mileage in heavy highway traffic.

Any link to the "numerous studies" that "reveals" lower speed limits for semis is "stupid?"
No you don't, because that's not the problem.
The actual biggest problem is folks going 80+ coming up on a cluster of traffic, swerve down to the right/slow lanes to try and pass everyone and cut in front of trucks causing chaos and accidents.

So how has Germany had unlimited speed + extremely safe Autobahns for nearly 100 years?!
-- Because on the Autobahn, you are NOT allowed to pass on the right.
Try a search on "speed differential increases higher risk of accidents" and you will get page fulls of links. I'll leave that up to you.
The problem isn't that trucks driving slowly is a cause, it's the fact that slow and faster vehicles on the same road is an accident cause, and California has that differential built into law.
In my opinion that is stupid.

Passing on the right can surely be a cause, but then the reason someone is passed on the right is often the driver who is too slow driving on the left.
That isn't allowed on the Autobahn either.

I don't like driving to/from San Fransisco.
The best part of San Francisco is watching it shrink in the rear view mirror.

What's up with drivers who pace passing vehicles??
Example.
Multi-lane Expressway.
I am in the center lane.
I have my cruise control set at 70mph, 5 mph over the speed limit.
I do not have adaptive cruise.
I am approaching a slower vehicle in my center lane.
I changed lanes to left in order pass them. My speed has not changed cruise control is still set.
For some reason I'm not passing them. They have sped up to match my speed and are now pacing me.
What hell is up with that??

I would actually slow it down a bit to get them by me and then resume my cruise control...pacing sucks, either get past me or fall in behind me.

I might be missing something..🤔
If I were to slow down that would still position them in front of me going slower.

I appreciate that. It's the vibe I get too.

I just now realized why my son is so good at razing me. He grew watching me with my buds!
Heard a saying: "Guys insult each other and don't mean it and women compliment each other and don't mean it".

I remember having a conversation with the better half when her commute to work was a 40 minute drive including the NYS Thruway...she felt she should not be using as much gasoline since by going faster, it meant that she was not driving as long therefore reducing the amount of fuel needed to be driving in the first place. I gently explained to her that it does not work like that and if she slowed down from 80MPH to 70-75MPH (the defacto speed limit on the Thruway), she would see a fuel economy gain that added only a few minutes to her commute. She was amazed.
I've been on some long trips thru the years where the planned last fuel stop before getting into a much more expensive area was pushing the limit anyway (full tank would have us back out barely), and then headwind made it much worse decision, without many options past a certain point.
Several times the passenger was sure I needed to speed it up - I asked if they just wanted more time to walk for fuel since they would be wrong, and think about it while I kept driving for max efficiency.
Days before any computer assist, trying to recall how accurate the very bottom of the gauge was, since it wasn't seen often. Toyota manual at least said when the low-light came on, so many gallons remained, 1.2, or maybe 2.1.

That reminds me of the story about the lady buying a take home pizza.
She told the guy she wanted the small size because it was just for her.

He said, do you want me to cut that into 8 slices or 6?
She said to cut it into 6, because she planned on eating the whole pizza, but couldn't eat 8 slices.

If you were passing me (obviously going faster), I would not speed up, in fact, I would slow it down a MPH or two to allow you to get by quicker.

100%. Why??? All the time!!!!
It's as if you passing them highlights they were going slow due to daydreaming and you remind them to speed up. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Why do four friends walking a path tend to walk in lock-step?

Unconscious conformity?

In college I worked in a 1-hour photo lab. Remember those?

One day a lady came in and asked me to print her photo of the moon "life sized".
