Okay, I could care less if Ford has "cornered the market" That just means they probably wont improve the Maverick much & as far as I'm concerned, the more competition, the better it is for the consumer. I'm not loyal to a brand and if Toyota makes a better truck at a better price, I'm all for it.
Enjoy your wait.

If you noticed my profile, it shows my 24 Maverick Lariat (bought it new & I've had it for over 2 years), so.... I'm not waiting for anything. Funny how fanboys love a brand.

If you own a Maverick, you're as much of a fanboy as I am.

If Toyota came out with a mini truck like the Maverick at a similar price point and features…ford would definitely lose some ground. That being said my driveway is filled with fords and I am an admitted fan boy but I know how Toyota people are.

Well good thing we won't have to worry about it!

Not really, I like my Maverick quite a bit but I'm not a shill like you. If there's a better product from another manufacturer, I'll admit it.

What evidence do you have that I'm a shill?

Toyota is "looking at market conditions" and will "possibly enter the market when the timing is right".

There is no planned release date.

If that is "swooping in for the kill" the bird may die of old age as in Glen's #205 post before anything that looks like a small truck to compete with the Mavericks is produced by Toyota.

Personally, I think they are waiting to see how the Maverick does going forward to assess whether that vehicle class is a niche market or a sign of a popular new segment.

We'll see. Just don't hold your breath or you may turn Blue.

Toyota is probably waiting to see the "$30,000" ev truck from Ford and the ev Slate truck, which will be the next Cyberjoke. Toyota is eyeing what price-point their Stout should target. They are very conservative, so I would say the Maverick has another 3 years before a Stout appears. It will be a hybrid + a plug-in variant. The gen2 Maverick should use the mega-castings and other cost savings from the ev truck to offer more features at the current price-point.

That could well be, but if their consideration includes looking at the delivery of Ford's vehicles that are still in concept stage, I'm thinking it will be more than 3 years, if they even decide to develop a model to complete in the segment.
A key consideration will likely be how well the baby truck segment does going forward.

Hyundai just abandoned the Santa Cruz after a large investment for a short production run, which could be weighing heavily on their earlier enthusiasm.

It's all conjecture at this point, but the latest information seems to indicate they are back pedaling rather than moving forward, thus the dead bird comments regarding Toyota swoping in...

Although I personally have never cared for the styling, it appears that Hyundai won't really be competitive in this segment without a hybrid. Why they have not done that is beyond me. I might have considered it if they had. Toyota needs to be careful of its stying also as this may play a big role in the Hyundai's poor sales. The Rav-4 and the Tacoma also don't have the greatest appearance IMO. Currently, Toyota seems to enjoy being able to sell whatever they offer no matter how it looks.
That’s why I ran away from the 17mpg SantaCruz.

For me to even consider it I would want it to have Toyotas off-road goodies or a TRD Pro trim level for under $50k with hybrid drivetrain.

Im more interested in a 2026 Ridgeline hybrid
Under $50k? Doubt it. Unless they undercut.
