It is if you don't want buyers fleeing to other brands. It's like Ford and cars: If you want a car and you don't want a Mustang you're scrod and you'll no doubt be buying something Japanese or Korean.
Or GM or Dodge,

Except Ford's CEO literally just announced Ford is done competing with those companies. Ford will do what Ford does best and stop wasting money on models that exist sole just for Ford to be in the market. Say what you will, Ford is a truck and SUV company now. The Mustang is simply a hobby they keep around due to its history.
That's not new news. Ford hasn't had a non-mustang since 2020. But as we've seen when gas prices go up, Ford sales go down.

Ford sold 45,333 Mustangs in 2025 (up from 37,485 in 2024). That's a little more than a "hobby, " methinks.

I wish Ford would build a ‘Stripped’ Maverick.
2.0 L Turbo
5 Speed Stick shift.
RWD only!!!! You know, something
That actually requires real driving skills.

AM/FM Radio, CD player
Manual seats and windows.
Bring back the ‘Wing vents’
TWO Door and maybe an access cab model,
5 ft bed.
No nanny/lawyer crap
No back up cameras,
None of the new breed of toys.

Keep the air bags,
Power steering and power antilock brakes
Keep the A/C

And NO Infofriggentainment crap screwing up the lines of the dash.

Put some bias ply tires on and go nuts !
Kidding about the tires.

They could call it, The ‘Old Fart’ package
:’P

Total Ford Sales in CY25: 2,204,124
F-Series: 828,832 - 37.6% of total
Maverick: 155,051 - 7.03% of total

He's not completely off base. If you aren't already in the market, is that 7% worth the investment?
Yep, your right, even though we love our little trucks, in the whole corporate picture that's not much more than a rounding error in the overall financial picture, so the guy's not "totally" wacko. Plus if there was any real competition to the maverick the percentage could be even lower. Love my f150 and expedition but my is maverick sufficiently capable for it's intended purpose and is easier for my general day to day task and way better getting in/out of for an ole fart with spine issues.

The maverick fleet sales probaly a huge chunk of its sales and Ram doesn’t do that very well even with bigger trucks in 2026. Use to but not as much now

I would say the American market is predominantly a truck and SUV market and Ford just responded appropriately. The Taurus was revolutionary at one time and had one hell of a run. The Crown Vic put the Chevy Caprice to sleep. The last releases of the Focus and Festiva (RS and ST trims) were something.

Ford can build a nice sedan, they just aren't popular enough in America anymore.

Just happened to get stuck behind a Rampage 1/2 hr ago. Looks nice enough. I like the split tailgate that opens like double doors. Unfortunately this fairly new mini-truck had double doors that no-longer aligned.

Which is still only 2.05% of their total sales. That's largely a hobby. Ford sold more Escapes than Mustangs and still cancelled the Escape. The Mustang lives solely on its history.

Trends and growth is much more important than absolute numbers in the long term. A vehicle with sales growing 15% year over year compared to a vehicle that has more absolute numbers but 1% yoy increase in sales isn't a failure.

We should also keep in mind that the F-Series (F-150) has 5+ DECADES of marketing and consumer awareness behind it, the Maverick has only a few years.

Zactly !

Something I can exercise my driving skills in and not so much shit to break down and drive the price up.

Yeah I’m a dreamer.

Obviously Ford increasing sales of the Maverick every year quite substantially despite production and price headwinds is proof that there is a market, but it might not be a huge market.

If GM put the Montana on the market that is based on the same platform at the same price as the Trax (actual dealer price in the low-mid 20's), how many would they sell? Might be something I would have looked at since the only things I haul are mountain bikes, yard waste, and occasional misc items, but it does even less "truck stuff" than the Maverick. I feel I am in an increasing minority of buyers who is fine with a cheap vehicle that goes from A to B with zero care about impressing anybody though, whereas based on the amount auto debt out there on increasingly insane terms, most buyers are borrowing as much as they can.
