I'm surprised your comment was allowed. Moderators typically remove 40% of my comments which are much less suggestive. If I mention anything negative regarding Ford, it is removed. Even comments that are meant to be funny. It all started with 2 threads about Ford's 140 Recalls that 2 members reported because they didn't like me mentioning it.
I didn’t say a thing about Ford but now I will.

Out of the American Car Companies which are the only ones I’ll buy from.
Ford is the best, period.
Ltd’s 2
Fairlane 1
Falcon 1
Old school Rangers 2
F-150 3
F-250 1
F-350 dually 1
Mustang 1
Transit Connect 1
Bronco Sport 1
Maverick 1

Not one of the above ever had a single engine problem.
Only one single transmission rebuild, it was in one of my Rangers, my fault, overloaded the mini truck, by a bunch. A friggin parade float, Tampa to Key West.

Not one ever left me on the side of the road.

All maintenance and repairs done by me and my buddies on all the ones listed before the Transit Connect.

Engine work on three was limited to head jobs, done at a machine shop reinstalled by me.

Water pumps, starters, carbs, brakes, suspension, electrical, and a few electric window motors. All the simple stuff.

The F-250 AND the F-350 got crate engines installed with the tackle hung from the limbs of a Centurion oak tree.

My six Mopar’s, 2 were Crazy fast Cuda’s
2 were stupid slow slant six 4 door darts.
And 2 were slant six Dusters.
They broke down all the Fuggin time.

Just like my 2 Camaro’s and my POS El Camino.

My one 1996 Jeep Cherokee was great. It was before Dodge bought them and turned them into junk.

Owned Toyotas and Hondas and Nissans before I wised up. All were ok meh~
I just didn’t fall in love with driving buzzy small cars. The Taco’s were fine, back then.
Things change.

2006 Toyota Tacoma Extra cab 2.7 L 4 cylinder automatic A/C cruise and overdrive, 528,000 trouble free miles yes sir !
Purchased in the Summer of 06’ for,,,,,
Drum roll,,,,
$20,160 out the door tax tag and title.
New, 3 miles on the clock.

Now check this next bit of truth out.

Got a thou for the Taco, compression was dropping, imagine that !
Traded it on the 2013 F-150.

Yep, six and a half years, 528,000 miles,

I drove a lot, Isotope transport. Paid great and was a wild ride.
Six and a half years, Grossed about 100k a year. The Toyota paid for the next several trucks. he he, that’s how I Rolled.

2013 F-150 XL with the work package, fold in side bed steps, A/C automatic with the very powerful 3.7L V-6.
No stupid carpet in the cab !
Rubber floor, cleaned with the garden hose and dried with the leaf blower. Purchased new for $20,400 out the door tax tag and titles included.
Sold to my salesman 23 months later with 167,000 miles and still on the original Iridium plugs. I drove a lot.
He gave me 10,000 cash and changed the plugs a year later with 185,000 miles I think it was. Said what I already had experienced.
That was he noticed no performance gains no gas mileage improvements or changes with the new Iridium’s.

Ha ! Any of you change the plugs at fitty thousand miles guys out there ? You’ve thrown a shit load of money away over the years and I bet you still can’t admit it.

Last tidbit,
Toyota averaged 21 mpg. Mixed city, highway and always heavy loads, always half ton or there about’s. Often pulled trailers when the shit was so hot I needed more distance from me.

21 mpg doing hard as hell work in brutal heat.

Ford F-150 same work same conditions, same type of driving.
20 mpg and ten times more comfortable and far safer.

The GT-40 and now the Mustang GTD
Need I say more ?

Ok I will.
All those suck ass recalls tells me Ford is riding the cutting edge and we are often the test pilots.
Some of you should get a raise

at least they are honest enough to admit there is a problem and will sort of fix it of all the Nissans I owned had one recall- a door sticker about tire pressures, wow that was major( I generally don't pay attention to those things anyway.

Granger only sells the Ford Warranty, there's not a separate Granger warranty.
.....
If you're seriously considering the extended don't wait too long - the price goes up 2x a year usually by 5-10% each time, you don't gain anything my waiting to buy it - it only kicks in after the factory warranty is up.
Interesting. Thanks for your post. I didn't know Granger was the Ford plan.
I learn something every day. I looked it up.

In looking at the plans, it says "your coverage begins from your vehicle’s original in-service date and mileage". It's also stated that after 30 days of coverage, a cancellation will be a pro-rated refund. Not really a surprise, as virtually all extended factory plans work like this.

You are right that the benefit kicks in after the factory warranty expires, but the cost actually impacts you as soon as you buy it, whether you end up actually using it or not.

If, for example, the trucklett gets totaled after 2 years, a refund is available, but any refund is reduced by the greater percentage of either that 2 years or the mileage driven, even though there is no actual benefit while the factory 3year/36K or potentially the powertrain warranty is in effect, as no "additional" coverage is provided by the extended warranty.

Therefore, it's not as straightforward as you only gain by buying it early. A lot depends on individual plans and unforeseen circumstances.

The risk/reward for buying it early is the reduction in pro-rated refund in case of accident or trade in during the factory coverage (risk), versus the potential (likely) cost increase of the plan that's avoided by buying it early (reward).

Unfortunately without a crystal ball there is no easy way to determine the better outcome.
For those who drive a lot, the Granger plan could kick in much earlier, but I don't plan on it.

For me, I intend to keep the trucklett, but for those who sell or trade their vehicle every few years, the warranty would be more of an expense rather than a benefit.

After going through the site, the Premium Care plan looks very attractive, both in terms of coverage and cost. It's more likely than not I'll buy it well before the factory coverage expires.

yeah the refund stuff I didn't consider, I guess I just figured that was the exception to the purchase and didn't give that any weight. But, in general, buying it early is cheaper than waiting x years, I didn't actually grasp the concept until it was too late - I was already ponying up another $1k that I didn't need to but I'm good with it, figured that yeah in the next 7 years there are going to be probs that will be covered and labor rates at the dealer are already $150+ an hour so I can imagine some 10 hours of labor and $800 in parts over the next 7 years.

And regarding price increases there have usually been announcements on this forum prior to the price increase.

That's what got me to look at it prior to an Aug 24 increase. I think the amount of increase is even known ahead of time.

I agree.
In a modern car with LOTS of electronics that get replaced rather than repaired, a warranty can save you a lot, and the warranty cost is likely to increase.

But when the hybrids starter goes out you have to get the whole trans changed! =$4-6K?
That's the transmission going out which happens to also happens to function as the starter too. So as long as the transmission is working , you have a starter.

Since that "starter" also creates the gearing when using the ICE, and prevents the ICE from turning when in EV mode - you'll need a new transmission for several reasons that will likely become apparent pretty quickly.

Nothing like 4-8k RPM to show up any issues quickly.
Think there is a strange sound with shakes and rattles on startup when cold now - I don't think I'd want to be in it when that airplane is taking off under the hood with a busted generator motor.

The hybrid doesn't actually have a starter. It uses the DC traction motor that is under stressed and uses 2% of its capacity so it's not likely to fail. Plus it doesn't have a solenoid to fail.

Just to recap, here's what's gone wrong with our 2022 Hybrid XLT in just the last ten months:

Codes P0811, P0E71, and PL920 at 41425 miles. Power loss on the highway, CEL on, limp to dealer on electric motor, damper clutch and flywheel replaced.

At 41725 miles, code P1061, CEL and Service Engine warning come up, limp to dealer on electric motor, got replacement engine.

At 49174 miles, code P1061, CEL and Service Engine warning lights, limp 20 miles to dealer on electric motor, new "trans" installed and damper clutch replaced again.

Now at 51k miles, waiting for codes to be read, but CEL and Service Engine warning lights illuminated with limp down highway to out of state dealer. Was unable to get loaner on a Saturday, messed up trip, blah blah blah.

Wife says dump it. I hate giving up a paid off vehicle before the factory warranty has even run out, but even I don't trust it anymore.
Then listen to your wife, and dump it! You will never hear the end of "I TOLD YOU SO" if anything else happens, (and it will) plus you'll have a new toy to play with. Happy Wife, Happy life!

It's more like "when you need a transmission, you get a new " starter" by default". 😅. Of the things that motor does, starting the engine is the least stressful function.

Well, the Maverick went down the road today. Carvana's offer went up by another $1k after January 1, and we dropped it off with them at 2pm on January 2nd. Their payment was in our account by the end of the day.

Thanks for all the input, everyone. Its been a good couple of years here since we first placed our order in July 2021.

So, are you getting another Mav to replace the one you sold, or just going with a different make / model?
