We get it, some people are cheap. Ford does not tell you to just blindly do 10k mile changes, get over it.

Even the trucks built in oil life indicator agrees with me.
The manual says 10,000 miles MAXIMUM to maintain warranty. Manual also gives conditions that warrant a 5,000 mile interval.

Not to be persnickety, but the manual actually says hybrids can go longer than 10,000 miles, but not 1 year. Here's the direct copy and paste from the manual:

"Do not exceed one year or 10,000 mi (16,000 km) between service intervals. Hybrid vehicles may achieve longer distances between oil changes, but do not exceed the one-year max oil change interval."

This is straight from the owner's manual. 10,000 miles is dead center in the "normal" driving recommendation (7,500-12,500). We live where we have over 4 months to 5 months above 100F, some days as high as 112-114. That puts us in the severe recommendation range. Thus we do a change every 5,000 miles.

The manual does not say to change every 5,000 miles except in frequent dust/sand. That picture is 'when to expect the oil life monitor to tell you to change under these conditions', which you conveniently cropped out of the picture.

As I stated, it's changed for the 2025 models. This page does not exist in the 2025 manual. I posted the link to the 2025 manual and copied and pasted what's in it. The OP has a 2025.

You'll never get consensus. I did my first change at 1k miles. Next at 5k and every 5k after that.

Is it overkill? Probably. Am I throwing a few dollars down the drain? Likely. Am I ensuring my vehicle is maintained to a high level for longevity? Absolutely.

If you went by the oil life "monitor" (in our case we'd get an oil change in a few years and 14,000 more miles). Oil is cheap. Car engines are not. Do what you want but don't criticize those of us that want to keep our vehicles for many years.

The part that was not shown is really irrelevant to the matter. It shows the maximum and when the "monitor" "should" tell when to change. I wouldn't trust the sensors in the Maverick and instead go by the odometer. Ford can't make a charging and electrical circuit that keeps the 12v battery charged. Do you think I'll trust their electronic gismo to guess the life of the engine oil? Not in a thousand years.

Those of us who have followed the oil life monitors of all of our vehicles that have had them, and run said vehicles a decade or more, well beyond 100,000 miles, in what Ford calls "severe duty" - with zero issues - can absolutely criticize people who don't seem to give a shit about the planet we share. Such criticism from internet strangers should absolutely roll off the backs of guys strong-willed enough to discard what the vehicle manufacturer itself says.

Anyway... as you were. :D

I did my first change at 1500 and then another at 10,000. I will continue to do 10,000 or when the oil monitor says, whichever is first. Oh, and as a fun experiment I'm only using Walmart brand full synthetic. We'll see what happens!

2025 XL maverick Hybrid with 4K tow package purchased new May 28 2025

I have a question please what is a good recommended number of miles before oil change. Currently I am at 6000 miles and it says 46% oil life in the app. I have flat towed it an addition 3000 miles
I think it really depends how long you plan to keep it, or, how many miles.

If you are shooting for the average ~10/100,000, just follow the OLM.

If you are wanting to push 150-200k+, I would follow the severe maintenance schedule, and stack the deck in your favor as much as possible. This is the course I have chosen for my truck, I'm targeting a 200K life cycle.

The 24MY online manual has changed - perhaps prior years too.

Also - in 24MY online manual it's NOT under Maintenance - this is what is under that heading:

INTELLIGENT OIL LIFE MONITOR

Under certain conditions the vehicle’s intelligent oil life monitor may determine your oil requires replacement prior to your general service. Should this occur it is recommended you replace your oil within two weeks or 500 mi (800 km) of being alerted.
Your authorized dealer will be able to advise you whether only an engine oil and filter change is recommended or whether you should complete your general service inclusive of oil and oil Filter.

---------------
Under Scheduled Maintenance is more info, which HAS BEEN UPDATED. I've posted this section before in other threads - and it has changed to be closer to the 25MY now. Used to refer to online schedule with link - no more.
This section now includes all the things, and brake fluid comment now, which was not part of schedule at all, which 25MY initially included I noticed, and potentially more frequent tire rotation NOT just at 10k, but that is still the service interval if no oil change prior.
Notice Ford did NOT rewrite this section nicely - they refer to a table of vehicle use, which is not what follows - so perhaps not finished yet:

SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE

Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor™
Your vehicle has an Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor that determines when you should change the engine oil based on how you use your vehicle. By using several important factors in its calculations, the monitor helps reduce the cost of owning your vehicle and reduces environmental waste at the same time.
This means you do not have to remember to change the oil on a mileage-based schedule. Your vehicle lets you know when an oil change is due by displaying a message in the instrument cluster display.
The following table provides examples of vehicle use and its impact on oil change intervals. It is a guideline only. Actual oil change intervals depend on several factors and generally decrease with severity of use.

Maintenance Intervals
At Every Oil Change Interval as Indicated by the Information Display 1
Change the engine oil and filter. 2
Rotate the tires.
Perform a multi-point inspection, recommended.
Inspect the automatic transmission fluid level. Consult your dealer for requirements.
Inspect the brake pads, rotors, hoses and the parking brake.
Inspect the engine coolant level/strength and the hoses.
Inspect the exhaust system and the heat shields.
Inspect the rear axle and U-joints - all wheel drive only.
Inspect the half-shaft boots.
Inspect the steering linkage, ball joints, suspension, tie-rod ends, driveshaft and U-joints.
Inspect the tires, tire wear and measure the tread depth.
Inspect the wheels and related components for abnormal noise, wear, looseness or drag.
Inspect cabin air filter if equipped, service as required.
Inspect engine air filter, service as required.
1 Do not exceed one year or 10,000 mi (16,000 km) between service intervals. Hybrid vehicles may achieve longer distances between oil changes, but do not exceed the one-year max oil change interval.
2 Reset the oil change reminder after engine oil and filter changes. See Resetting the Intelligent Oil Life Monitor - Vehicles With: 4.2 Inch Screen.

As many posters have shown by their early OLM recommended oil changes - it seems capable of telling when severe ICE usage is in play - and telling you to change early.
And for hybrids - obviously how much ICE usage has actually happened.
Just wish for the non-Lariats pre-25MY trims we could get lifetime electric miles displayed too - it's in the system!
Just for comparison - I had the old schedule still in my browser at home, not updated yet.
This is all it has for Scheduled Maintenance section, the rest is online, I prefer the revision:

Protecting Your Investment
Maintenance is an investment that pays dividends in the form of improved reliability, durability and resale value. To maintain the proper performance of your vehicle and its emission control systems, make sure you have scheduled maintenance performed at the designated intervals.

Your vehicle comes with the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor system, a message appears in the instrument cluster display at the proper oil change interval. This interval may be up to one year or 10,000 mi (16,000 km), hybrid vehicles could exceed 10,000 mi (16,000 km).

When the oil change message appears in the instrument cluster display, it is time for an oil change. Make sure you perform the oil change within two weeks or 500 mi (800 km) of the message appearing. Make sure to reset the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor after each oil change. See Resetting the Intelligent Oil Life Monitor - Vehicles With: 4.2 Inch Screen.

If your instrument cluster display resets prematurely or becomes inoperative, you should perform the oil change interval at six months or 5,000 mi (8,000 km) from your last oil change. Never exceed one year or 10,000 mi (16,000 km) between oil change intervals.

You can drive your vehicle in such a way that may lead to higher oil consumption including extended time at high engine speeds, high loads, engine braking, hard cornering maneuvers, track and off-road usage. Under these conditions, oil consumption of approximately 1 quart per 500 miles (1 liter per 800 km) is possible. Check the engine oil level at every refueling and adjust to maintain proper levels to avoid engine damage.

You can also drive your vehicle in such a way that dilutes and increases the level of oil by frequent short trips that do not allow the engine to get to operating temperature, extended idling and low speed driving for long periods of time.

It is important to rely upon your dealership to properly diagnose and repair your vehicle.
We strongly recommend only using our genuine or our authorized re-manufactured replacement parts engineered for your vehicle.

Additives and Chemicals
We do not recommend using chemicals or additives not approved by us as part of your vehicle’s normal maintenance. Please consult your warranty information.

Oils, Fluids and Flushing
In many cases, fluid discoloration is a normal operating characteristic and, by itself, does not necessarily indicate a concern or that the fluid needs to be changed. Have discolored fluids that also show signs of overheating or foreign material contamination immediately checked.
Make sure to change the vehicle’s oils and fluids at the specified intervals or in conjunction with a repair. Flushing is a viable way to change fluid for many vehicle sub-systems during scheduled maintenance. It is critical that systems are flushed only with new fluid that is the same as that required to fill and operate the system or using our approved flushing chemical.

Owner Checks and Services
Make sure you perform the following basic maintenance checks and inspections every month or at six-month intervals.

Check Every Month
Engine oil level.
Function of all interior and exterior lights.
Tires, including spare, for wear and proper pressure.
Windshield washer fluid level.

Check Every Six Months
Battery connections. Clean if necessary.
Body and door drain holes for obstructions. Clean if necessary.
Cooling system fluid level and coolant strength.
Door weatherstrips for wear. Lubricate if necessary.
Hinges, latches and outside locks for proper operation. Lubricate if necessary.
Parking brake for proper operation.
Seatbelts and seat latches for wear and function.
Safety warning lamps (brake, ABS, airbag and seatbelt) for operation.
Washer spray and wiper operation. Clean or replace blades as necessary.

Multi-Point Inspection
In order to keep your vehicle running right, it is important to have the systems on your vehicle checked regularly. This can help identify potential issues and prevent major problems. We recommend having the following multi-point inspection performed at every scheduled maintenance interval to help make sure your vehicle keeps running great.

Multi-Point Inspection
Accessory drive belt(s) Hazard warning system operation
Battery performance Horn operation
Engine air filter Radiator, cooler, heater and air conditioning hoses
Exhaust system Suspension components for leaks or damage
Exterior lamps operation Steering and linkage
Fluid levels 1; fill if necessary Tires, including spare, for wear and proper pressure 2
For oil and fluid leaks Windshield for cracks, chips or pits
Half-shaft dust boots Washer spray and wiper operation

1 Brake, coolant recovery reservoir, automatic transmission and window washer.
2 If your vehicle has a temporary mobility kit, check the tire sealant expiration Use By date on the canister. Replace as needed.

Be sure to ask your dealership service advisor or technician about the multi-point vehicle inspection. It is a comprehensive way to perform a thorough inspection of your vehicle. Your checklist gives you immediate feedback on the overall condition of your vehicle.

Severe Driving Conditions
A vehicle that is driven for short trips of less than 5–10 mi (8–16 km) miles, driving in temperatures greatly below or above average, driving in any dusty conditions, idling more than recommended such as in traffic, and driving with a heavy load or while towing a load are considered severe driving conditions. If you drive your vehicle in any of these conditions, follow the severe service maintenance items listed in the scheduled maintenance chart.

So that's the chart that the new online manual is referencing - and they left out.
Good grief - if they assigned that task to AI, it did a poor job.
