P1061 I can't find anywhere and Iooked through 10,000 codes.

My list is from 2022. P1061 did not exist at that time. So is it new? Or was it a typo?
It was defined as part of the bearing knock detection strategy PCM update.

When & where?

Please & thank you.

The OP's technician thought it was "network issue" which sounds like "lost communication with scan tool".

yes, I thought it was this thread but regardless you pointed that out to me previously. I was also surprised this DTC appeared from nowhere. but that's exactly right, it is brand-new.

Ha ha ha ha ha......πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

This is what I found on a non-Ford site:
New OBD document here for 24/25 MY. Except hybrid, bummer.
https://www.motorcraftservice.com/freeresources/obd

But it came out slightly before the recall notice and PCM update, so a new one still to arrive?

And I'd sure hope the 2 groups do talk to each other to hold off on the new document for a bit. But perhaps they did.
So keep an eye there for updated one.

ETA - nothing new under the sun.
Same 7/16/24 edition.

hopefully they have a warranty engine readily available and you're back on the road before too long. 🀞

I heard back from the dealer today, engine needs replaced due to a spun rod bearing.

They "anticipate" the necessary parts to arrive on Monday. This may happen quicker than I was anticipating if I'm lucky.

Ford also told me they would reimburse the cost of a rental until I get my truck back. I'll be looking into that today.

New update:

Engine received last week and work was completed over the weekend.

Went in to pick up, drove 20ft in the parking lot and check engine light comes on immediately. Tech plugged in and test driving to diagnose. Currently sitting waiting for the results.

Incredibly frustrating.

EDIT: Dealer is claiming the code was a 'network error', most likely resulting from the engine swap. They noted that it shouldn't return after they clear it and if it does I will need to drop vehicle off again.

Yes, they replaced it back in April. Took about a month, but 1.5 weeks of that was them doing the airbag recall I said I didn't want done, and forgetting to plug the wiring back in. Took them that long to figure out what they messed up.

Truck is running great, zero issues since the engine replacement. I've put a little over 5,000 miles on it since.

Ford also gave me a 36,000 mile 3-year extended warranty for free.

EDIT: As of June 26th, it seems the problem relates to the recent CSP about the faulty rod bearing. My Maverick is getting the one-time engine replacement. Timing chain replacement noted below appears to have been unnecessary.

Engine swap was completed Aug 5th, will report if further issues arise.

I updated the title to better reflect the threads content.

TDLR timeline:
  • May 6th: Problem first occurred. Dropped off at dealer
  • May 8th: Vehicle returned after 'software resets'
  • May 17th: Issue occurred again. First dealership reset software to make drive-able, but did not offer rentals, so I took it to another dealer. Problem re-occurred again on way to second dealership.
  • May 22th: Vehicle returned, after dealership conducted 'diagnoses and software fixes'
  • May 23rd: Issue occurred again, and vehicle returned to dealer
  • June 5th: Buy back request submitted to Ford
  • June 6th: Vehicle returned from dealer. extension work conducted (replacement of knock sensor and all timing chain components)
  • June 14th: Problem occurred again. Vehicle dropped back off at dealer. Ford buy back 'still in review', should hear back in next 5 days. Contacted lawyer to review legal options in the event Ford denies buy back.
  • June 18th: Dealer called and said they haven't found anything, more updates EoW.
  • June 19th: Ford denies buy back request
  • June 21st: Ford buy back team denies my escalation, stating they will not reverse their decision.
  • June 26th: Dealer is now working to replace the entire 'long block' . Waiting on parts. They were unable to give me a time frame
  • July 29th: Crate engine received from Ford and swap begins.
  • August 5th: Swap completed and vehicle picked up. Will report if any further issues come up.

I posted a while back about an issue I was having with my Maverick Hybrid losing power randomly. After nearly a month in the shop, I finally got my truck back.

The dealer could not give me the exact cause of the issue. It appears Ford engineers told them to 'shotgun' it and replace everything related in hopes they solve the issue, so I guess time will tell if it's really fixed. Essentially they did the following:

-Replaced knock-sensor
-Replaced Timing Chain
-Replaced Camshaft sprockets
-Replaced Chain Tensioner

Here is the summery of the work completed:

Thankfully everything, including nearly a month of rental, was included under warranty. Still, having tear apart the front end and conduct major repairs on a vehicle under 20k miles is concerning.... I'm in contact with Fords Buy Back team, needless to say this experience has made me very nervous about long term reliability. I'm considering my options moving forward, and whether to keep the truck (and purchase extended warranty) or ditch Ford entirely.
Hello! Ran across your thread when searching the P1061 code. I have a fleet vehicle (2022 Maverick 2.5L hybrid) that just threw that code after the driver lost all power while driving down the interstate. After communication with the dealer, he forwarded me a generic letter from Ford - designed to go out to 2.5L Hybrid owners - saying if you encounter the code and power loss problems, they will replace the long block as a one time repair (after evaluating).

So, this tells me this problem is not a one-off issue, but more than likely larger issue that they are trying to get in front of before having to issue a recall. I am scheduling the replacement process now. I'm concerned now, as I have newer (2024) Maverick hybrids in my fleet that, hopefully, the rod problems have been rectified.

I am not home now but I have two 2022 mavericks, that have had the update to add two error codes that are supposed to show up when "specific knocking" happens. As I remember if they get tripped in 10yr/150k miles the dealer will examine ice to verify long block needs replacement. There was a specific vin list initially which I believe was added to. Do not know what happens if you don't get the knocking error code. I will find letter in a few days and post a copy.

They did issue a recall.
Several - first to deal with the effect to minimize it, while they tried to figure out the root cause.

There was a small subset of engines that had a bearing issue - but unknown which exact VIN's it ended up in - only the production run.
That ended long ago - your 24 is safe from it. That paperwork should be specific for dates.
Those in the production run received a software update to listen for the potential issue and limp the truck before a serious effect was caused.
Then engine replaced.
