MM, understand I’m not trying to argue with you…. This is a battle between “Save the Planet” don’t use oil and “Treat your Engine Well” mechanical sympathizers:)
The point you missed is:

It is both at the same time.

I have noted:

The OLM sometimes doesn't drop at all the days I drive 500 miles in a day.

I don't think it's flaky or faulty

I think all this shows is the update rate is slow, not in real time.

Come back in a day or two and it will have dropped about 5% in average conditions.

Can of worms, meet opener  . Watch this go off the rails real quick.
Just for fun asked Chatgpt about oil life. It recommended 3,000 -10,000 miles.
Sometimes AI is wise. :ROFLMAO:

I don’t think the OLM is flaky or faulty either. Actually am amazed at the tech involved. The fact that it told you to change your oil at 6,000mi in your Hybrid due to towing reinforces my amazement.

I still don’t know how it works because of the proprietary issues…
Is the OLM logic the same in the Hybrid Port Injected Atkinson and the turbo EB - both direct & port/direct engines?
Do they have the same sensors in the different engine configs?

The more we know the better.

My Oil life monitor says I’m at 57%.
I’ve got 5,200 miles on this load of full synthetic oil.

I guess if it knows I’m running full synthetic it also knows that for the way I drive my oil additive package is still at 57%.
Because of my Turbo and it’s two tiny particle screen filter that I will replace at 50,000 miles I do 5,000 mile service intervals.

Only because of this thread I took a look see. For the first time.

I pay that oil life monitor no attention what so ever.

Exactly, that’s previously when I almost opened a can of worms! 🤣

I am coming up on one year since my last oil change. Roughly 5,000 miles since last year, 8,500 on the clock on my 2023.

I'm at 5% oil life. A few days ago I did a 400 mile highway round-trip and oil life didn't even drop 1%.

There are obviously several components here - cycles on the motor (ie short-tripping), miles driven, power used while driving those miles (ie 10%-20% while on highway, or 50% while towing up hills), and time.

If I don't drive much and the vehicle sits, I notice oil life % changes with even 0 miles being put on the Maverick.

Personally I have no issues with taking it down to 0%, since mine is mostly time based. Others doing hard/heavy/short driving, might feel differently.

I find each Maverick’s OLM computation interesting. There needs to be a separate thread to gather data 🤓

Your truck is approaching 12 months and the OLM is focused on that detail? Your oil may well be “healthy” - but it is getting “old”.

Anyone gone over 12months without a 0% from the OLM?

Anyone gone over 10,000miles without a 0% from the OLM?

In both those cases the oil may still be effective - but could violate warranty requirements?
“Look officer, I was going 13,000 miles but my OLM said 30%!”

I've gone past 10,000 miles twice without reaching 0%. A lot past.

Always in less than 12 months.

The record I've seen posted was 19,000 miles to 0%.

If you drive for a living, 19,000 miles could come in under 2 months.

We are talking about Maverick Hybrids - not long haul truckers whose hours behind the wheel are federally regulated & drive trucks optimized for high mileage trips.

But a hardy Hybrid driver would be well served to follow Ford’s 10,000 mile recommendation and stop at a “Jiffy Lube” at least once during their 19,000 mile trip. Geez, get out of the truck to stretch your legs, grab a cup of coffee, and take a pee break before continuing on the marathon 19,000 mile drive!

Weird that Ford’s OLM disregards Ford’s own 10,000 mile oil change spec…

Nothing we think we know is even close with the Hybrid’s OLM.
That is a bird of a different feather.

If you were to be on electric only half the time then 19,000 useable miles per the OLM
makes perfect sense.

I do 5,000 mile service intervals because of my Turbo.
If I had the hybrid I’d do 10,000 mile oil change intervals and Fagetaboutit.
But !
I’d damn sure run full synthetic.

People using their OLM to gauge when to change the oil past 5K are really misunderstanding the meter. It is there to tell you IF you need to change it sooner than 5K only - has nothing to do with extending mileage past the 5K recommended oil changes - per the manual ;)

Cheers

Hi. EB here, on the last 3 months since my last oil change I put close to 2000 miles my olm shows my oil is a 66% of life remaining, estimated distance 6600.
