It's a truck. Tailgates are built to slam.

I showed up at a jobsite with my newer Ranger and the old guy there couldn't get over how nice my tailgate closed. His trucks were all beat up and he had to slam the hell out of them to close them. He opened and closed mine a few times with a smile on his face. This was in the U.P. and they didn't care about appearances.

At least everyone who posted so far did. I won't add one, because I have seen too many posted that broke the first week. I don't just drop my gate either. I was taught how to lower tailgates in the late 70's as a teenager.

I'm torn on this, because on one hand obviously the tailgate assist is better 99% of the time. But on the other, its satisfying having to drop it yourself for some reason....

Me too, and to open it before I start loading so I don't have to try to open it with hands full. The Maverick has the easiest tailgate to open slowly with one hand that I've ever experienced.

Agreed. I've had three F-1X0s, and you stood back, pulled the handle, and let it drop.

Before I got my Mav, I saw the comments about the tailgate assist, and I started wondering if it would be good for my wife, but I was shocked how light the Mav tailgate seems.

Now I do understand a lot of us need help with stuff like this and it's great there are solutions like this, but I just thought it was funny when I first dropped the tailgate on my new Mav and thought, wow, this is light.

Besides, losing the tiedown is a deal breaker for me.

Telling a YouTuber that there already is a video about some thing is like telling a young song writer that someone else has already written a song about love.

I admit that I haven't watched the video because I've seen literally about half a dozen videos about it, and I know that I don't need one, but videos like this help me out all the time, so kudos.

The tailgate damper was the first mod I did. As others point out, usually hands are full of Depot crap or something that is too heavy to lift over a closed gate. The damper gives a feeling of quality and is well worth the cost.

Yea . I use gravity to open mine . pull handle to open and let it drop . works well .
