Connections for the trans cooler come from the radiator. I would assume the standard radiator would not have trans cooler connections. So, if you have the wrong radiator, how come you have these connections?
Good question. I can imagine a few possible answers?
- I’m looking at the incorrect hoses for the trans cooler…possible
-Standard radiator has connections for trans cooler…odd
-I have the correct 4K radiator after all…that’d be nice

...already answered in post #27. The 4K/Lobo supplemental transmission oil cooler isn't in the radiator and is shown as #1 in the diagram.

All EB Mavericks have a standard stacked-plate transmission oil warmer/cooler, which also isn't in the radiator. It is also shown in the diagram in post #27:

Ok thanks

Ok - thanks! Now I wonder how & why the assembly line attached the separate trans cooler to a standard radiator. That should not be a valid combination?

I'd imagine there is a bit of disassembly required for this one. Had a 22 and swore to never buy a first year vehicle again ... and the 25's are changed enough to fit the category imo... Good Luck Lobo Owners - I'd be a bit irritated by this. Also begs the Question is anyone sure - non lobo - if the 4k package in other models really the larger radiator etc.... What we have here is a Failure To Communicate and it hurts the brand for sure.

I’m guessing Ford has long mastered the 4K Tow Package .

The base Lobo has the weird partial system that is new for 2025..,

It's difficult to see exactly how the trans cooler mounts between the radiator and the A/C condenser, but my guess would be that it attaches to the core support structure, not the radiator. These parts are shared among all of the C2-platform vehicles with varying drivetrains, so they likely appear in different combinations from one vehicle to another. In other words, there may be other vehicles from this platform where the standard radiator and trans cooler are a valid combination so, it went down the assembly line with no problems.

I've replaced radiators in other vehicles from this platform and older versions of it, and it's not that large of a job. The biggest part is removing the bumper cover/grille assembly and the shutters. Once that's out of the way, it's fairly simple. I don't think I would be too worried about the dealer messing things up but, as mentioned before, unless you're doing serious track days, you'll likely never have a cooling issue with the standard rad/fan setup.

I’m a professional procrastinator not an amateur racer - I’ll probably wait until next July to get my radiator “upgrade”. The new “advanced AWD” torque vectoring rear differential has me future recall concerned though.

But then we all agree that dealers are dumb, so there's that....

Ford should know how to properly build a vehicle by now, its not like this is something new for them...
For a startup or even company with only 5-10 years, sure sorting out processes takes time.
But Ford probably has assembled a car a few times before..

If I paid for one thing and received something else, I don't see this as optional.
I bought a Lobo partially for the reassurance of increased cooling capacity. Even if I won't be racing it, I expect it to include what they said would be included.
Or, give me a $5k rebate to compensate me, and I'll live with it as is.

Unfortunately I did not realize that 2025 was an ALL new 2.0L engine until I took posession. If I had known that (and Ford clearly communicated that was the case), I likely would have waited and kept my already proven [Mazda] 2.0 EB (Focus ST).

This only applies to LOBO builds up to March 31. I believe most 402A's were later availability . I wonder if these are mostly 702A builds.

That's why I join forums like this and research before I buy a vehicle.

The Ecoboost 2.0 in the 2022-2024 Maverick was the second generation of that engine, and there were many differences between it and the first generation that was derived from the NA Mazda LF/Ford Duratec 20 that Mazda dropped from production in 2011 to replace it with the Skyactiv-G family. About the only thing left from the Mazda/Ford joint venture in the first generation Ecoboost was the block. Calling the second generation engine a Mazda isn't accurate, as the block was replaced by a flawed Ford open-deck design for MY2015, which was remedied by a machining change in 2019.

Hopefully Ford got the redesign for your third generation Ecoboost right after what they've learned from the earlier issues.

The “4K Tow Package” includes maybe a dozen main components & hundreds of parts. The Lobo only uses a couple of the main components (Radiator/Fan/TransCooler).

I agree with you that there was a parts shortage & decision made to “keep the line moving” with the available (standard) parts. I’m waiting for the other “customer satisfaction recall”shoe to drop eventually - the TransCooler components.

What a pain - but purchasing a first year model with an all new engine and drivetrain is now a risk unfortunately.

I’m going to ask my local dealer to send their Mobile Repair Truck to perform the switch. If they can’t, I’ll sit in the lobby/lounge for the hour or two it takes to do the switch. My retired nose pressed up against the service area glass when I’m not live posting pictures to this post;)
At my dealer the service area glass is behind the counter and glass is 4.5-5 foot out of reach and all you can see anyway is the quick lane area. Also no guarantee that the job in front of yours will be completed before your scheduled start time. Hopefully they don't have to wait days for it's parts to arrive for it to be completed.

Ahhh! You expressed that you were dissatisfied and service manager escalated instead of proving it technically met the actual qualifications. I had a headliner replaced because I was dissatisfied with weatherstripping not covering edge of headliner. The vin was not in the range for the recall but dealer did it under "customer satisfaction".
ETA: Don't know if mattered but I did purchase the 7yr/100k premium warranty.
