I suspect they don't really have any proof that the new design airbag is insufficient (otherwise there would be a recall for ones produced then), but rather hinges on that in the initial filing to the NHTSA at that time Ford had not determined the root cause in the discrepancy between pre-production certification and as-built. So their reasoning extends that therefore Ford's engineers must be incompetent. Also they imply that Ford was knowingly covering up there was a discrepancy between December 2021 and June when the NHTSA brought it to Ford's attention.I read an article that said there was a pending law suit saying the recall repairs were not an adequate fix. I would guess there is no reason to do it twice to get it right, why not wait until it is settled? I for one am not worried about mine enough to push the recall replacement.
