Are you sure it's not saying "Battery Saver Mode"? Never heard of drive more to exit Safe Mode. Whatever Safe Mode is.

I think you're reading it wrong. Never have I ever heard of a car wanting you to drive because you're in "safe mode." Like the above member said, I think you're mistaking it for "battery saver mode" since you have a hybrid. Maybe take a picture of it the next time you see it? That'll help pinpoint the issue.

If you have original 12v battery in a 22 it most likely needs replacing. Mine in my 22 lasted 34 months and the last 5-6 months had a maintainer on it almost every night. Finally I had it checked, the handheld used at dealer said it was good but needed charging. I asked for the overnight test which showed a bad cell and was replaced about 7 months ago.

With it being a 22 model, I assume that you're now out of the 3/36 bumper-to-bumper warranty that covers the 12V battery. Assuming that you've had all your recalls done (one was for a defective 12V battery cable on all 22 models, one is to fix the a/c draining the battery in the middle of the night, and at least one to reprogram the body control module) you will pretty urgently need a new 12V battery under the back seat. Since its a Hybrid, an AGM battery will not be useful, although it does potentially slow the sulfation problem due to the BMS software error giving chronic undercharging. I'm on my third battery under warranty in my 23. Now that you're out of warranty, pick up a new T4-R battery from a Nissan or Ford dealer, Walmart or a third-party battery dealer. Its a simple install.

And then have that battery soon become sulfated as well. Ford needs to fix the actual deep sleep problem causes. They promised a fix by the end of March then admitted they didn't have one and then promised it by the end of June. That deadline came and went, and now the manufacturer is dead silent about it. Must be figuring if they stay quiet the problem may go away (likely once peoples vehicles go out of warranty). Pretty low if that is what they are doing. Hopefully that is not the case, and the problem is just the lack of competent engineers or fear that the really fix means practically redesigning the entire charging electrical system and recalling all hybrids.

If you're on the original battery, you're likely lucky, as most '22 model years have had their battery replaced at least once by now. The OEM battery was supposed to be an AGM, however supply shortages resulted in Enhance Flood Cell batteries being installed. - Problem is the vehicles computer remained programmed for an AGM battery, which doesn't help.

If you're out of warranty, or just want peace of mind, as mentioned above, have an AGM installed, it will last longer, and should (no guarantee) put a stop to the Battery Saver Mode. If you're handy, and performing the swap yourself, a larger Group H5 AGM battery (factory is a T4) DOES fit in the compartment under the rear seat. You'll need to pop off the plastic surround to install it, and then snap it back into place. - Removing the surround actually even makes installing another T4/H4 battery a lot easier to install, there's not a lot of access going through the removable cover opening.

There was never a shortage of AGM batteries (that is a rumor that keeps being used as an excuse) and the Maverick came with a flooded lead acid battery by the manufacturer's choice. When the battery fails, which they will from sulfation, the manufacturer has the dealer replace it with another flooded lead acid battery. There is no current shortage of AGM batteries. They are a dime a dozen. If putting in an AGM, when the dealer is presented a Maverick with a sulfated battery causing deep sleep problem would permanently fix the problem of deep sleep, then Ford would have them do so. The AGM is not some panacea solution. The problem is the vehicle does not have an alternator, and the current design does not fully recharge the 12v battery like in a traditional vehicle. Until that gets redesigned and those fixes made in everyone's hybrid, this problem will be continuous.

Ditto to initial cost savings reason.

And all they gotta do is tell BMS - charge higher for longer, back off the longer you go.

They understand the theory, they got the principle right - they got the application wrong.

For who knows what purpose. (gas mileage improvement seems rather inconsequential so likely rumor too, bad sensor readings?)

Get a new battery and make it an AGM type. The OEM battery Ford used for 2022-24 are crap. Most of us hybrid owners were saddled with this deep sleep nonsense for months if not years. We tried everything; trickle chargers, fuse pulling, and voodoo dancing. Nothing worked. Amazon has an AGM battery for a reasonable price that will fit perfectly in your Maverick. (Ignore Amazon's warning that the battery "Does not fit your Maverick". It will).
Here's an MTC thread I started on how to install the battery, but many thanks to many MTC members who weighed in on the problem and inspired and motivated me to get the better battery. I suggest a bigger 470 CCA battery.
The dealer installed the 470 MAX series battery in mine under the warranty at 34 months. It has the same BXT99RT4A (Just has MAX and red label instead of brown or blue label) as the 390 one that came with my hybrid.
