So then buy the keyless entry pad. I did.
It's on my To Do list. Meanwhile keyfob stays in my pocket. And, the Fordpass App works flawlessly to lock & unlock, but phone must be in your pocket.

Sooooo two nights ago I was driving north for the holidays. I parked in a lot and got out of the car to get something. The car immediately locked me out with my phone, keys, and dog inside. This has never happened before - it’s never locked itself with keys inside (or outside! I always have to manually lock it with the fob). It was freezing and I was outside for 3 hours waiting for a locksmith in the middle of the night. Anyone else have this happen? In case it matters, I have a 2023 Maverick with 30k miles. Just took it in for service a few weeks ago. Thanks for your help!
I thought the 2023's have a keypad, not sure if a XL has one.

I once locked my keys in the car. Took me 3 hours to get my family out of there.

If they had been filming you the whole time you could probably sell that for big money. 3 hours of hand movements, erasing what you did, then another way. Squatting like sitting in seat, pulling the lever, maybe in a way not to push the lock lever, and then pushing door open.....etc...adinfinitum....

All the 2022's XLT's had the external keypads...I've been locked out a dozen times. I have been standing outside my XLT inside my garage and heard the doors lock...5-10 minutes after getting out of the truck. Especially when stopping to get my mail and click, click. I would not buy another Maverick without the Keypad. Has happened with keys on the seat and in my pocket!

NO….your doors are. NOT locking ten minutes after you get out of your truck. Come on. 🥴🥴🥴

I promise you they are... The weird part is I hear them click and immediately check and find all 4 doors locked....several times my keys were lying in the seat....been doing it since I bought the truck....Not a problem since I have the keypad. My dealer service guy had it happen to him during a 2 day service call, he left the key in the Maverick, he got locked out....and had to call me for my keypad code...and admitted it was not something new...other people have reported the same problem.

I'm not the only one...several other people on this site have reported the problem but most people don't believe them.

That's because no one, not one has been able to honesty video it. 🤷‍♂️
Don't forget many of those people who claimed it happened, also have recanted and actually realize that they were locking the door by accident.
It's so common that a member is marketing a guard to inhibit accidental locking.
For those not familiar - When grabbing the door lever to open the door, the side of your hand can accidentally push in the mechanical lock lever and a fingertip can also accidentally press the power lock switch.

Plenty of threads have been posted here showing that it's a common problem. In fact, Ford even put out a service bulletin on the topic (see here), feeling the need to state that it's a user problem and not a problem with the vehicle. Ha!

After having this happen to me one too many times (aargh!), it ended up being a good excuse to finally get familiar with 3D printing and come up with something useful that prevents it. Bought the cheapest and most neglected used 3D printer I could find on FB Marketplace and spent some time watching YouTube tutorials on the design software.

Measure, draw, print, fit, and repeat. Lots of trial & error involved but I ended up with a simple solution that works well.

So here's another item from Lane's Workshop (see my signature below for the other items I make & offer)... the Lock Guard.

lock_guard_prototype2.jpg

Both pieces are mounted using 3m VHB adhesive tape. The left piece mounts next to the mechanical lock lever and sticks out about 5mm beyond it. It prevents the lock lever from being pressed with the side of your hand since your hand will contact that part and not the lever. The lever can still be pressed, but only on purpose now.

The right piece mounts over the elec lock switch and prevents you from pressing the button which locks. The unlock button remains available. If there's a need to lock all the doors, the button on the fob will need to be used.

lock_guard_final.jpg

This project turned out great so if anyone wants a set, I'd send them your way for $10. Add $5 for a flat shipping cost and that covers anything else that you may want to purchase at the same time as well (see my signature for the other items I make). Each is held on securely with good quality 3M VHB foam adhesive tape. PayPal is strongly preferred as the payment method. If you have an interest, please send me a private message (don't post to this thread).

FORD addressed it early on👇👇
Ford Maverick Car locked me out with keys inside 20250328_105438

Conclusion: It is caused by owners accidentally pushing locking mechanism.
No one has been able to honestly show otherwise.

Note….the “clicking” you are hearing is not the doors locking. It is the internal systems on the truck setting and resetting.

I know the different clicks.....more than once I was standing by the door reading my mail and heard the doors lock. My Ford Service Manager also witnessed my Maverick locking him out...just an added feature. Service Manager laughs about it because no one believes it happens but he witnessed it first hand more than once on other Mavericks and has no answer.
