If they could just get rid of E85 ethanol gasoline and go with clear gas (ethanol free), they wouldn't have to do all this. For a tiny amount of CO2 reduction (CO2 is not a harmful gas) you lose around 25% MPG that you would see with clear gas. There is no reason we should be using corn and sugar cane to make vehicle fuel when the U.S. has one of the largest reserves of oil in the ground ready to be tapped.
First the same could be said about the hybrid. All that mining of lithium and copper for slightly less co2.
Second it’s not even close to a 25 percent reduction in mass g with the 10-15percent e content. I’ve done both e15 and e 0 blends multiple times in my vehicles on the same trips and it is never anywhere near 25 percent. 25 percent is close to what you lose running straight e85.

yet we all still have a free replacement engine on wait and are expecting our engines to explode at any moment because of a manufacturing defect regardless of how long it was in production.
Fair point but I'd take luck of the draw of a manufacturing defect on a limited
production run that typically shows up early on vs design issues that pop up well after warrantee expires (ie F150 phasers, water pump in 3.5l ecoboost, list literally goes on forever).

Ethanol was going to be added regardless due to it being the new MTBE replacement.

I thought I read inside of this thread even, that there’s no port injection in the new 2.0, but I’m glad to hear otherwise. I would consider getting a new 2.0 for this reason, after the terrible experiences I’ve had with GDI engines
That was from Shay's previous thread he (mistakenly) said that it didn't have port injection.

Interesting video, Sam!
Question: why would Ford go to the expense of completely redesigning an engine, a redesign that provides almost no performance or fuel economy improvement?
Is the new engine cheaper to build?
It integrates more external components like the EGR and also serves as a common design for the 3-cylinder offerings. Emissions and efficiency in scaling are also cited in optimizing the head/valves and pistons all together. There's some updates to the turbocharger design and variable valve timing system as well.

Honestly 2-3 years isn't nearly enough time to flush out any design flaws.

Rule #23 of life: never, EVER, buy the A model of anything. You just never know what sort of fund things this redesign is hiding 5-10 years down the road.

One nice thing with the hybrid - that 2.5l duratec has been around for like 15 years.

My 2018 Mustang is dual injection. I've heard of no issues with this system to date. Ford does know how to integrate it. It works very well.

What about the 5.2 predator? That has been bullet proof even to 1200whp?
as for the 3.5 most issues were lack of proper maintenance from owners.
I had many of those for work fleet vehicles and not once did any of them have any such issues. Water pumps yes but all went at over 300k because they are plastic impeller and wore down. I wouldn’t call that a failure since most vehicles have that now.

lifetime CO2 reduction looks to be about 27% when comparing hybrid to non-hybrid. this chart includes building the vehicle.

Fortunately, there are a few gas stations in counties surrounding Richmond, VA that do sell non-ethanol gas. One oil company offers both 87 & 93 octane, and a Wawa sells 89 octane. My Maverick EcoBoost generally gets about 4 mpg better with the non-ethanol fuel. The price fluctuates, but in general it runs about $.20 more than the equivalent ethanol blend.
Here on Long Island, NY 91 octane ethanol free is $7.39 a gallon, ethanol 91 is around $3.39! You are not allowed to pump it in your vehicle. I use ethanol free in my lawn mower and snow blower.

I think anyone interested in a 2.0 has a really good opportunity here if the Job1/2 have the port injection and no GPF, that should ameliorate some of the downsides of direct injection and avoid adding another maintenance item, too. I've personally had more than my fill of particulate filters on my diesels and definitely recommend avoiding them when possible if you plan to keep the vehicle for long term. I like them on class 8 trucks, they make them serviceable, easy and cheap, but on consumer engines like in pickup trucks and cars they make them disposable and too expensive. You can still clean them out yourself though if you do get a vehicle with one eventually and get a lot more miles out of them, they've been doing it for years in Europe. :)

New member here - just put a deposit on a 2025 2.0l Ecoboost (sale hold) Maverick Tremor, build date January 2025. The Tremor I put a deposit on was the showroom floor. I was able to have one the dealers master technician spend about 30 minutes with me and go over the engine. The "new" 2.0l EB in the Maverick has been in production since 2022. It's the same engine used in Lincoln Corsair and Escape since 2023. In the Corsair the power train gets a better warranty 6yr/70k miles. It uses motorcraft oil filter FL2127 / Wix WL10290, this filter has a pretty high by-pass valve rating of 22 PSI. The oil filter is mounted much closer to the front of the engine. Here is a video of a 2025 Tremor owner doing an oil change on this engine(also in another of his videos he installs the new UPR catch can for this engine):

Wow, that sucks. We have a station here selling ethanol free 87 for the same cost as the guys across the street are selling corn 87. And I still toss in a bottle of Techron on occasion, just for the hell of it! As an owner of old carbureted motorcycles, I've learned that varnish is not a good thing in any vehicle.

My Holley carburetor after about 10 years of using ethanol gas. I add ethanol cleaner and Sta-Bil every half a tank or so now.
