SSM 53801 2022-2025 Maverick - Hybrid - 12V Battery Drain - Built On Or Before 17-Feb-2025
Some 2022-2025 Maverick vehicles with a hybrid powertrain and built on or before 17-Feb-2025 may exhibit a 12V battery drain. This may be due to the software installed in the air conditioning control module (ACCM). To correct this condition, perform a battery condition test as outlined in Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables > Diagnosis and Testing > Pinpoint Test A. Service the battery as necessary. Connect a battery charger such as Rotunda GRX-3590 or DCA-8000 to the 12-volt battery. Download and run the "air conditioning control module (ACCM) software update" application in the Ford Diagnosis And Repair System (FDRS) scan tool. If the battery was replaced, download and run the "BCM-reset the battery monitoring sensor learned values" application in FDRS. For claiming, use causal part 19703 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.
They have coded the causal part number to the a/c compressor, so it will be covered 3/36, and I already checked and it is covered under Ford Premium ESP also...(not sure about the other level contracts)
Correct me if I'm wrong but this has nothing to do with the ac compressor and just updates the HVAC module software. So what does the compressor being covered under warranty have to do with it?

I used to own a brand new 2022 EV in Canada. The U.S. models had 12V battery drain issues. It didn't show its ugly head immediately in Canada (probably due to less vehicles). This brings to light two issues:
1. 12V battery drains are issues with many manufacturers, both EVs & hybrids
2. Multiple "fixes" were done over the years, thinking the issue was resolved ... until it wasn't. i.e. the supposed fix didn't actually help

It's always a wise idea to hold off a touch to see what the end result is. If this SSM fixes it - great. If not, Ford goes back to the drawing board.

My 2025 Maverick Lariat has been built this week and hope I won't have this issue, but until I know for sure, I will devise a way to access the 12V battery (should it die and not open the doors) and carry a LFP booster pack.

Cheers,
Steve
You shouldn't have to worry about getting the door open in a dead battery scenario.

There is a manual key slot in the driver door and the fob has a key in it for situations like this.

Once in, you should be good in the chance you experience a dead battery...you have a li booster pack under the seat that has been maintained/charged regularly, right!

Andy

Cheers,

Andy

So are we to assume that vehicles built after February 2025 don't have these 12V battery drain issues? I know I've seen a few owners here with 2025's that have reported having the deep sleep issues. Curious as to what your build date is on your 2025 if you have experienced the deep sleep issue.
What this means to me is they identified this "Fix" back in Feb (in the first quarter as they alluded to in the previous service bulletin). They incorporated it into the new builds starting in Feb and as a test. I will probably just wait for my next oil change, but I would not hesitate to get it done as we probably would have heard complaints from new My25 owners by now it there were any adverse issues.

I put an AGM into my truck a little over a month ago and contemplated putting the old, flooded cell battery in for the battery service, but I don't think I will. I reconditioned the old battery so it would probably pass their test anyway so why bother. I will probably get a much longer life out of the AGM so I will consider it a mod...

Where do you see what date your Maverick was built ?
If I log in to https://parts.ford.com/ with my VIN and choose any local Ford dealer, I see that my XL was built 10/19/2021 which is close to the 10/27/2021 date shown on the window sticker.

Thanks, this is something I never noticed and didn't ask the sales rep. Now I know. My EV had this ability too so it was never a concern.

The base part number 19703, when run, correlates to the a/c compressor, when the dealer would check for coverage under ESP - my 2022 is out of 3/36 and I was worried they would make the causal part the battery, like they did on Escape hybrids (batteries are NOT covered under ESP, so that would negate coverage for the update)

ESP PART NUMBER: 19703 - COMPR & CL ASY-A/C
PART COVERED BY ONE OR MORE ACTIVE CONTRACT(S)-CPCLIGHT

This is how it shows when I ran it on my VIN...

The ssm simply says 22-25 model years built before a certain date. A build date of 2021, is a 2022 model year.

Well - sadly I am betting I called this last year correctly.

As this SSM was described as an INTERMITTENT battery drain issue (meaning a parasitic drain that left the battery DEAD), they found the module that would cause it. Infrequently.

Everyone having the issue if inadequate battery charging - your issue is not fixed.
If you have Deep Sleep mode and Battery Saver being enabled because of that issue - your issue is not fixed.

Maybe I'm wrong on that - but since they aren't touching the BMS system or BCM, I don't think so.

There is absolutely no reason to build in that much software and complexity in any system in these Mavericks.

This old fart remembers,
Car spins the starter up a little on the slow side, We’d go to Sears and replace our five year old Die Hard with a new one, at 4 years we still had a little prorating discount.
The whole affair was about $75

If we stripped the bull shit stuff out but kept all our toys and tech, Hybrid and Ecoboost we’d be so much better off.
The FoMoCo would have ultra reliable cars that we’d keep for twenty years.

Oh wait, They can’t allow that.

Out of all the things we suspected...I don't think anyone has AC on their mind.

Unbelievable - and this should be more than a SSM but next time I take mine in i will see if they can get it done.
I questioned if there could possibly be a Non Air Gap Switch Leaking in the off position.

My 3/36 ended earlier this week. Am I understanding that even though this is a software update, that they just now released a fix for, I'm SOL?

Good point since SSM is not a recall to be done to all vehicles with or without the issue.
SSM is if you come in with the problem.
And since batteries have a lifetime anyway - sounds like they are counting that as 3 yrs.

Now - it's a software update, any recall that updates software usually includes updating all modules that need it. So it should be covered then.

Would like to hear from one of our dealer tech's on that matter, or experienced with prior SSM's on something actually out of warranty.
