TLDR; special ordered Maverick hybrid, had numerous issues, finally had enough, sold to Carvana, MTC is awesome.

I special ordered my hybrid in 2022 with what I believe was the ideal package (XLT, luxury, co-pilot, sliding rear window, DIBL, keypad, heated seats/steering, etc). Was fortunate to get the price lock from 2022 and was one of the first to receive a 2023, taking delivery late December of 2022.

The only non-warranty maintenance was air, cabin, oil filters and oil. I never had the dreaded "battery drain" that have plagued so many hybrid owners. However, I did experience multiple issues including: creaking dash/windshield (unresolved), engine surging while cold (unresolved), wipers that stutter when parking (unresolved), freezing infotainment (eventually resolved), defective exhaust heat exchanger (15k miles), both axles (28k miles), and numerous recalls/service bulletins scattered throughout (24C01, 23C41, 24S27, 24S59, 23E07, 23E09). The final straw was when I got the truck back from the axle replacement and it sounded like there were rocks in the transmission. The dealership replaced the entire unit (~$8k warranty) and when I got the truck back, the issue remained. I believe that the damper/flywheel were somehow damaged during the CV replacement (or could be coincidental) and those needed to be replaced but I'm not a technician.

The truck never left me stranded and delivered on it's MPG rating. Over the course of my ownership, I averaged a hand-calculated 39.98 mpg, with a personal best of 840.4 miles to a single tank (56MPG, 15.001 gallons). However, with the rough ride and constant issues, it was time to part ways.

I have no idea how people are comfortable paying ~$40k for this truck. It's one thing when it's in the low to mid 20's, but it's another when you get to the mid to high 30's. It's still a $20k truck...no matter what "features" they try to throw at it.

I paid ~$26k plus TTL. After 28 months and 30k miles, Carmax offered $25k and Carvana offered $26,200.

I have really enjoyed my time with MTC and the members in general. I think being part of this community is what made owning the Maverick such a fun experience, despite the issues. The modification of the truck is what really made it fun. For me, it was upgrading the audio, for others it's using FORSCAN and adding smart cruise control, etc. Overall the community is one of the reasons I kept the truck as long as I did.

I'll still be checking in occasionally and wish everyone the best!

Great price from Carvana. They only offered me 26k for my 2022 Hybrid Lariat Lux, but it has 39,000 miles. Not interested in paying 40k plus for a 2025 though, mine was $30,800.

Going to ride mine out. Ford just replaced the engine in mine due to the CSP and gave me a free 3 year/45,000 mile Premium Care extended warranty. Thankfully they also provided a loaner for the month it took for the engine replacement.

No other issues besides a few programming recalls and the wiring harness replacement.

As Curly Bill said in Tombstone "Well, bye". Seriously though glad you got a good price. This forum convinced me to NOT get a hybrid. And I will never order a vehicle. I ordered 1 and only 1 in my life back in 1978 so I would get exactly what I wanted. But because of supply issues for some options GM substituted options I didn't want for one I did. Since then if I can;t test drive it first I don;t want it.
Agreed. I'd recommend the Ecoboost over the hybrid, despite the MPG difference. Fortunately, the resale of the hybrid turned out to be pretty darn good.

Geez, the whole engine?! Ugh...it's this type of thing that really justifies my decision. I am not one to just buy/sell cars either. I was comfortable ordering the hybrid since I thought it was based on the proven architecture of the Ford Escape and those have been around for forever with tons of miles.

I suppose having the extended warranty gives you some peace of mind, so that's good. And I agree that the new pricing is insane.

The engine defect was a manufacturing defect that affected not just certain Mavericks, but Escapes and Corsairs as well with the 2.5l engine. I knew about the possibility since the 1st recall in 2022.

Wasn't expecting the free extended warranty. That was definitely nice.

If anyone is in the Chicagoland area and is interested in a slew of Maverick goodies (tonneau, custom audio setup, floormats, OBDLINK, etc) let me know and we can work out a package deal.

Great write up. Thanks for taking the time to post.

As far as how people are comfortable paying $40k for a maverick, it’s because they are getting any entirely different truck than you.
It’s the same reason a 2wd, 2 door F-150 bare bones work truck starts at $37k and the 4wd 4 door raptor starts at $78k.

likewise, you could go through every car lineup and show the same doubling of price between the cheap trims and the expensive ones.

In my case, I paid $37.8k for an awd ecoboost lariat fx4 with 4k towing capacity. Completely different driving experience and completely different capabilities. After nearly one year of ownership, I’ve had zero problems. Zero recalls. Zero squeaks or rattles. Zero problems with electronics, while cranking the rocking’ B&O stereo to 20+ volume everywhere I go.

You got what you paid for. I got what I paid for.

Wait, you had Maverick for 28 months, put normal miles on it, then sold it for more than you paid for it? Most of us hope we get similar returns.

I just sold my 22 FX4 lux 4k tow with all the options except sunroof in like new cond. 14,500 miles to CarMax for 27,500 paid 32k 3 years ago, warranty was up in few weeks, dealer offered me 21k and said CarMax is not going to give me that much well they wrote me a check on the spot they even brought a water bowl out for my dog while waiting, I shoved the check in the dealers face, CarMax even gave me a ride to pick up my new 25 Maverick Lariat hybrid loaded to the hill, only had it 2 days but local driving haven't used a gal. of fuel and I don't miss the eco power at all it has plenty of power rides much better than my Fx4 and the radio/ 13.5 screen is great, if it had a real shifter it would be perfect. No traffic hold button going to miss that or I haven't found it yet.

Your Auto Hold button should be on the control panel under the vents, first button on the left, below the word ON in the picture below. It's the one with the hand. They just moved the controls around for the 2025 facelift. Exact button layout may vary.

Thanks guys, it took me a while to turn on radio still get confused 55 years driving this screen like being in spaceship nothing like my 22/FX4 the ride is completely different and seems higher off the ground. I love it. And yes I checked the tire pressure, I know these KIDS that do the PDI never set the correct tire pressure, I used to be one of them back in the 80s. Reminds me when I got my Maverick back in 22 people never saw one and stopping me asking me about the vehicle and taking photos, then the sht hit the fan and they were everywhere. The loaded Lariat is a completely different animal.

My then new 2013 F-150 3.7 Ltr basic XL with the work truck package was $21,700 out the door. Tax tag and title plus all dealer fees included.
That was at Brandon Ford in between Tampa Fla and Brandon Fla. a massive dealer with big time buying power. Three storage lots.
60 miles away at Sarasota Fla Ford, the rip off old people dealer my same truck was $28,500 Before the triple T.
