My worries are of course is rust as I am a Buffalo NY area. I had it rustproofed at Krowns. Also put a blocker plate behind left rear tire.

I would get an extened factory warranty like you said. This way electronics would be mostly covered. I DON'T think any battery the 12 volt or the high voltage one is covered though.

Then there has been a few with axles on hybrid wearing out. Makes sense as the axles do most of the braking during regen. BUT they are pretty cheap BUT would be covered under extended warranty anyway.

I think 10 years 125 K miles with no major issues is possible That's my plan. I doubt Toyota has any small hybrid truck coming. If they do I bet 32K and up.

I can't help myself from suggesting a used Forester. One of the most bland, boring, functional vehicles ever.
+1
I sold my 2009 Forester with 83K miles when I bought my 2022 Maverick. After 13 years, it finally developed a couple of small rusted-through areas in the body. I figured I'd sell it before it got too ugly to bring any decent money.

I have to say that it was probably my favorite vehicle of all I've owned, with the possible exception being the 1969 Chevy Camaro I bought in 1979 as a teenager.

Cars are getting better. Yes, even Fords.
I'm not concerned about the Maverick's longevity seeing how well Fusions, Focus, Escapes and Transit connects seem to last in my area. Before I ordered the Mav I went to the junkyard and found as many of the related cars as I could to have a crawl underneath to see how well they've aged.

Anecdotally, my 2017 Fiesta has about 80,000 miles (127k km). Daily driven no matter the weather and has been through 5 Canadian winters. There's no visible rust anywhere on the body, no rot starting on the undercarriage either. There is a tiny bit of surface rust on some of the heat shields and steel under body braces but nothing that's even worth taking a wire brush to yet.

I wash it every few weeks, spray out the wheel wells and spray down the under carriage but otherwise don't baby it and it's never been undercoated.

Am I just lucky? Maybe, but probably not.

I never kept a vehicle more than 3/4 years am retired now and spent 45 years in the automotive industry, I would tell family and friends never buy the first year model so what do I do I buy a 22 Maverick XLT, LUX, FX4, 4K TOW, its a cool little truck. With the cost of new cars these days 45/50k I can't afford a new vehicle every 3/4 years living on a fixed income anymore. I only drive now 7/8k miles a year now so you would think a vehicle will last a while, in the old days it was nothing to get 150 even 200k or 10/15 years out of vehicle, not anymore smaller engines and turbos took care of that. So for the first time in driving 55 years I bought a extended warranty At Granger 1500 and have a feeling am going to use it hearing some of the stories on this site and the tube, transmissions, turbos, axles, window motors, radios, etc. so am going to change my oil every 5k and follow all manufacture recommendations'. AND HOPE FOR THE BEST.
Don't follow the manufacture for oil changes on the tranny, or transaxle in your case! I own a 2019 Ranger and I believe, it's 100K! For any auto trans oil changes should be in the 30 to 50K range. I am considering a Maverick so I joined this forum to keep up to date and read about others experiences. I have only owned Ford's and have had decent reliability. They are not top of the line but decent, if you maintain them and pay attention to what your car or truck is doing you'll have a good vehicle. Just wanted to add my 2c.

I so agree with you. The ones who say just do what manual says are the very ones who then say I only keep the car 2 to 3 years .LOL Not the keep it 10 to 12 year owners. Maintenance is key.

I’m 65 and thinking on my last new car purchase. I want it to last. My biggest concern is electronics, cars are dependent on computers.
I will either go Toyota Stout or Maverick. Toyota’s do outlast Fords in general. I like the way Ford’s seats are, this coming from someone who has had 7 spine surgery’s, so comfort is important.

One thought I'll throw out there is - have you thought about a Nissan Frontier? My thoughts there are Nissan generally sticks with tried and true components instead of the latest and greatest stuff and are not as computer dependent as other brands and seem to be pretty reliable. I may get slammed for not promoting Maverick, but hey its full of electronics which seems to be a big concern to you, and heavens knows when the touted Stout will, if ever, be available on the market. You've been around the block a time or two, as I have, Follow your gut for what you feel best for you and your plan. Good Luck in whatever you decide!!!

I live 1/10th of a mile from the beach in FL. You KNOW I'm keeping an eye on things.

Had a 2002 Honda Civic sedan. Between the road salt from living in NY, to the couple of years I had it down south before trading it in with 250K miles, my mechanic buddy screamed at me to get rid of it because every time he worked on it, something else would break off from the rust issues. Ended up trading it in for a new/used car for my daughter that had only 2200 miles on it.

Hey nothing wrong about the frontier BUT its much bigger and gas MPG sucks. One of the MAIN reasons a got a Mav hybrid was gas mpg. Not really the same class of vehicle. BUT I would put Toyota ahead of Nissan any day.

There are several people on here who Uber their mavericks and have 60k+ miles already- search for those threads.

Someone saw a used 22 Hybrid last year that was for sale at a dealer with 110k miles. ;) Looked like it had been through a few storms and was beat up. Most likely some kind of heavy equipment delivery driver.

Age does more than millage in some cases. Sitting a lot, vs gets driving is also harder on a vehicle.

I would suggest considering a Ranger 2010 or older. Those are pretty much the same size as the Maverick. There is nothing fancy but they run forever and are dependable and easy to repair.

As far as Mav longevity goes it’s still a guess. I had a ā€˜22 Hybrid and in the first month I told myself this model is not going to age well. Too many issues with recalls, fit, finish, rattles, paint battery and electronics. I figured in 5 years it would land in Consumer Reports ā€œWorst Used Cars to Avoid.ā€ When a car is a rattle trap right off the lot, it isn’t going to get better. And mine rattled a lot. The fit of the doors and body left something to be desired and again, those are only going to get worse. Then throw in the battery issues and electronics and you have a car just waiting to drive you nuts in 5 years.

I do have a 2024 EB that was shipped this week because I do like the truck and I think the third model year should have most of the kinks worked out. But even so, this will be on a 3 year trial and I will get rid of it in a second if it comes up with problems close to the three year warranty term. If I do keep it it will be the first vehicle that I will definitely buy an extended warranty on. I’ve never done that before. But I don’t drive as much anymore and won’t have 36,000 miles on it in three years and I expect problems to start happening around that time. But I take very good care of my vehicles and won’t be putting lots of stressful miles on the engine and in that situation I think it could be a good secondary ten year vehicle. I don’t think I would purchase it as my primary vehicle if I was doing lots of miles on it. I just don’t think these are going to hold upwell for ten years overall.

Interesting about you saying fit and finish being poor.Unless I miss understood. I think my 2023 has really good fit and finish. I ceramic coated it second day I had it. My body panels are really nice and tight. Maybe 2022 they weren't as sorted out?

Alberta uses way less salt than other areas.
