No need to make it easy for them though.

I was gonna say that...A metal container will reduce range, the signal is not really interrupted or absorbed, just block. The idea behind the Faraday cage/bag, is that the mesh acts as an antenna of infinite variations in length, thus soaking up the signal before it can get too far.
A friend tried this with a cookie tin and when he got closer to the car with the key inside the tin it would still unlock. So maybe try yours to see if it's a Faraday tin it just a regular one![]()
My mom and dad are both over 80.
I drive for them when I'm in town.
Since they have push to start, they don't hand me the keys.
Both mom & dad had their fobs in their pockets.
I dropped mom off at a store and dad and I were going elsewhere.
As soon as I drove away; the car started beeping and buzzing and yelling at me. Message like "no key detected".
"Dad, don't you have your key?"
Yes, it's right here.
Hands it to me in a little Faraday satchel.![]()
I have Faraday pouches from Azon and find that fairly regularly they get detected by the truck either inside or by the door. I know their detectable range is reduced. At least this means anyone intercepting the signal has to be very close. I avoid sending commands to the truck via the fob when in crowed/congested areas.Any bag or box is only going to block your FOB's transmissions. Think about when the fob actually needs to talk with the truck, to know when you'd need to block it.
That sounds great for insurance coverage. If someone steals mine I get a brand new never driven model of equal value and if new 2025’s cost more I have no out of pocket expense for five years of coverage.
Stolen, totaled, fire. What ever.
This cost me an extra $80 a year
simply the truth.Great attirude!
Erie. Talk to your local agent,That sounds great for insurance coverage.
What company is it with and the name of the coverage so I can research it further.
Thanks.
There are some really shoddy products out there representing themselves as signal blocking mechanisms. I bought and tested one of the Faraday pouches, by locking the truck, putting my key in the pouch and walking up to the vehicle and gripping the door handle. It unlocked, so the Faraday pouch was leaking the keyfob signal. It took it back and now use a small tin that works a lot better at blocking the signal. Just make sure that there is metal-to-metal contact between the tin and the top, as the paint will stop it from working as a Faraday cage.Being born in the 1900s, I was worried about this when I bought my new 25 Maverick. It's like YouTube picks up on my fear and has to show me security camera videos of guys standing around in the dark with big handheld antennas and stealing new cars like this. I live in Central California. My local PD maintains an online list of all cars stolen in the city. Very few are newer than 2020 and even fewer (old and new) are Fords. Just because it is not common, does not mean it's impossible. I have been looking into buying one of those Faraday bags. Seeing your post gave me a kick in the rear I needed to get that bag. I assumed they would be a little pricey and I wondered if any old small metal box would work. I did a little googling and found out, yes! One of the alternatives that this site mentions is that old cookie tins. I have PLENTY of those! The same cookie tins just keep getting gifted, emptied, stored, refilled with more sweets the next year, and regifted right back with fresh sweets. The smallest one of those are now going to become where I keep both my clickers at night

Connect from AmFam for Costco members, new replacement cost me $20/yr. Worth it for me, $784/yr total for the Maverick, that's with full coverage. That sounds great for insurance coverage.

Those might work as an ANTENNA rather than as a faraday cage, increasing the effective range rather than limiting it - so do test whatever solution you come up with. One of the alternatives that this site mentions is that old cookie tins. I have PLENTY of those!
