Report out of San Jose, CA

Cars and trucks of all makes, models, and price ranges with "Push to Start" are being stolen in droves. Vehicles with physical keys to twist, not so much.

The wireless / keyless starting is easier to hack and does NO DAMAGE to the car making resale easy and more profitable than the vehicles with mechanical keys to start them.

Very content with my 2022 XLT with metal key to start it.

Very interesting. Thanks for that info.
But aren't stolen vehicles more used to be stripped and then sell the part instead of a whole vehicle?

Surprised there is no mention of Faraday containers to help prevent signal cloning.
I don't think that is the tech being discussed here. It's possibly an OBDII connected device. The press release and a couple of articles that I read were purposefully vague.

It would seem they have to access somehow to do that. The old fashioned way maybe, but most keyless systems are also alarmed.

Being born in the 1900s, I was worried about this when I bought my new 25 Maverick. It's like YouTube picks up on my fear and has to show me security camera videos of guys standing around in the dark with big handheld antennas and stealing new cars like this. I live in Central California. My local PD maintains an online list of all cars stolen in the city. Very few are newer than 2020 and even fewer (old and new) are Fords. Just because it is not common, does not mean it's impossible. I have been looking into buying one of those Faraday bags. Seeing your post gave me a kick in the rear I needed to get that bag. I assumed they would be a little pricey and I wondered if any old small metal box would work. I did a little googling and found out, yes! One of the alternatives that this site mentions is that old cookie tins. I have PLENTY of those! The same cookie tins just keep getting gifted, emptied, stored, refilled with more sweets the next year, and regifted right back with fresh sweets. The smallest one of those are now going to become where I keep both my clickers at night :)

Might be worth getting a good OBDII port lock.

Isn't the non-lariat Ford Maverick a form of "two-factor authentication"?

You need the electronic handshake of the chip in the fob PLUS insert and twist a key in a mechanical lock?

A friend tried this with a cookie tin and when he got closer to the car with the key inside the tin it would still unlock. So maybe try yours to see if it's a Faraday tin or just a regular one 😄

My mom and dad are both over 80.

I drive for them when I'm in town.
Since they have push to start, they don't hand me the keys.

Both mom & dad had their fobs in their pockets.

I dropped mom off at a store and dad and I were going elsewhere.

As soon as I drove away; the car started beeping and buzzing and yelling at me. Message like "no key detected".

"Dad, don't you have your key?"
Yes, it's right here.

Hands it to me in a little Faraday satchel. 😁

Ya.
Open with physical key you still better get the key with transponder put in the ignition within 30 seconds or alarm is going off.

If you have the remote that works then it has a good transponder code, but then would need the physical key to be correct to start it.
Of course if they gained entry and have the time - they may get around the physical key part of it.

At least that Passive alarm system is enabled/disabled with physical key/good transponder.

HOW DOES THE PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM WORK

The passive anti-theft system arms when you switch your vehicle off.
It disarms when you switch your vehicle on with a correctly coded key.
Note: The system is not compatible with non-Ford aftermarket remote start systems.
Note: Do not leave a duplicate coded key in your vehicle. Always take the keys and lock all doors when leaving your vehicle.
